For what reason did you start genealogy research?

I know I have Cherokee blood in my family from my birth mother. I would like to be able to get the correct information so I can register as a Native with pride. I lost my adoptive parents 36 years ago and it left a major whole in my life. I know come from a proud people and I would like to be able to stand up as one.
