In the course of my research I have realized that many of my earliest Swedish ancestors were priests in the Catholic church prior to 1530 and Lutheran's after that. There was even one who had to face the ecclessiastical court and then the King's court to prove he didn't have Catholic leanings although he was ordained in the Lutheran church.

If I ever traced all of their descendants(which might take several lifetimes lol) I would have distant relatives all over the world as if I didn't…

Hello again,

I found one more small baby photo that I didn't get copied.  I put with the rest of them. Named it Another Matheson-Carpenter Baby to ID.

I am excited that you seem to be able to recognize some of the photos expecially one that looks like you!

Another thing,  my Great Uncle Will who was my grandmother's brother lived in Pratt, KS and was an engineer on the Atchita Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad so thay may be the connection for your man.

Maryann,

I have the names of the 7 children of John and Alexis.  But haven't delved into that family.  I have put the pictures I have on the Mathesons in my photo section of this website and also are the ones not identified.  I was hoping you could help with those.  Feel free to down load them and pass them around to others who might know them.  Do you have info from the graves at the Kirk in Gils Canisby.  I wrote down some Roses or Rosies when I was there 20 yrs ago.  I'd have to find them to check.  Do you have Sylvia Sutherland's maiden name/?

Maryann,

Do you have old photos of the family?  I have some old tintypes that Mother said were either Carpenter or Matheson.  I have a hunch they are Matheson or that side of the family.  But they have no names.  I could send you them if I had your email.

Hi Maryann,

Thanks for finding me.  I have been out of genealogy a while as when we moved to Phx. AZ area I went back to school for another degree.  Is there a Sr and  a Jr James Sutherland? I have two but with your info it doesn't seem to fit.  Have you found Sylvia's maiden name? You may get an email from me from another site as I couldn't get into this one.  I finally got the password changed to let me in.  It was a bear!   Great to hear from you, Linda
