Concept Charts; using bubbl.us - free brainstorming site.

I've never actually used bubbl.us; it's a free online web tool for brainstorming. I think it's a really great site, though, and I had it bookmarked. From the book I'm reading 'Research Your Family History: Genealogy for the first time.' By Laura Best, on page 34, she provides a 'Concept Chart' which is basically a brainstorming sheet for an ancestor. I did a brief google search but couldn't find any Concept Charts online, but I wanted to point… Continue

Sands, sands, sands.

I'm trying to find a way to organize my research that is clear and coherent, and I think I've finally got a way. Since I'm doing all of this online to begin with, using mainly Ancestry.com, I've been printing their screenshots of information which is not the original 'certificate' or what have you. So until I can get originals, I've got a lot of print outs that need organization. I've adapted an Individual Data Sheet, a Family Group Record, and a Pedigree in excel and I've decided to use… Continue

:) that's what I was thinking, too- I've learned that even if the indexed name looks wrong but dates and first names are close, I usually remember to look at the image as sometimes the indexer was wrong. I've indexed as few census records, and its not so easy to get it right all the time. :)

I saw that Leon too, he would have been born the same year as Sadie Ann, so maybe he's from the same family as the Leon that married her, but a nephew? I believe the Leon that married Sadie was born in 1877, so he was about 12 years older than Sadie. It couldn't hurt to figure out his line to see if he runs into the other Leon?

LOL :) nope I was just up with my 1 year old who was up and down last night, and I like helping people find stuff. :) It takes some time to figure out where stuff is and sometimes I miss obvious things, I've been working on a majority of my lines and my SO's lines for 3.5 years now. I'm a stay at home mom, and I've been doing genealogy instead of cleaning my house for a few years. :)

Hang in there, try using google with the places and people you are sure of in your lines, esp world connect trees on rootsweb, some are suspect, but some are good. also familysearchlabs and familysearch are both goood resources, but like most things on the internet, take most things with a grain of salt.

one more note-
I goofed on thinking Florence was living with Leon in 1930, there was another Leon with a daughter Florence, just not the right one, sorry, not sure where they ended up yet. But, I did see Leon's WW1 draft registration, around 1917-1918, he was still married to Sadie A, so either he died or he left or she left. I'll see if I can find an obit for him, He worked on the railroad.

Hi Marilin-

Here is a link that may help:
http://www.usgennet.org/usa/nh/county/rockingham/newfiel.html

Newfields, Rockingham County, NH

Town Office's Mailing Address:
P.O. Box 300
Newfields, NH 03856

you may be able to find out where you could find records? Its possible by this time the records you are looking for are at the State level by now, instead of local.

Here is the website for the Newfields Library:
http://newfieldslibrary.blogspot.com/

hope this helps, I've found that some libraries and town clerks are very helpful. ;)

I noticed that the three children on the 1920 census had the Otis surname, and on the 1910 census I find a Sadie A Otis married to a Leon Otis in Newfields, NH, with a daughter Florence, age 7 months, Sadie was 21, so matches up with David's wife in 1920. I think Florence is back with Leon in 1930. My guess is that perhaps Sadie Isabella, born in 1920 is living with a sibling of David's?

:) Hi

I also noticed a Sadie Sands living in Maine in the 1930 census the right age for David's wife. From familysearch I noticed that he died in 1923, and if this is the right Sadie, do you know where their daughter Sadie is? She would be 10?

Hi Marilin-
I checked genealogybank and I didn't see any sign of David Sands or an accident. I think I found David in 1910 in Newfield, Rockingham, NH, he was a Fisherman with his own boat, he was 38, and even though his parents are indexed as being from Canada, it looks like Scotland on the image, even though its hard to read as it is faded. He was single.
