Hi, Laurence.
I am a Smith from MN. My brother consented to a DNA test with Family Tree DNA and we are connected to Francis Smith from Hingham & Taunton. We, and a number of others in our group, have "brick walls" from the early 1800's.
There is another test that Family Tree has that is called Family Finders, and this test is for ALL lines, so not just the father's father's, etc. is traced. I noticed that some of the other names you are researching are names that have turned up in my Family Finders results - so perhaps we are connected somewhere in one of the trees.
