NY Police Department Records

I just had a nice success and thought I'd share: for anyone who has ancestors who were on the New York City police force, you can send them a request for information.I sent a request in for my great-grandfather's records at the end of March and by mid-July I received a nice cover letter, his "Force Index Card" and "Transfer and Assignment Card."From those I learned some excellent information: His exact birth date, naturalization date, addresses, precincts, previous work before going on the…See More

That expertise has proven to be a valuable thing to have in genealogy research.

I plan to start recording my research and family thoughts in a blog to save for my family - not one there yet, but my site link is below.

Hi John, I am researching a Mary Tierney who left Ireland Between 1840 - 1850 with her husband John Martin.I have seen her maiden written as both Tierney and McTiernan. Do you know much anout which counties Tierney's were apt to come from? I have looked for her husband's naturalization papers but there are several John Martin's naturalized about that time here in Ma and there are not enough identifiers to determine which is his. Actually the one I susoect is his on the index roll, the actual papers went missing at the Natural Archives. Very frustrating to think they might be in someone's scrapbook.
