Jake Fletcher is an avid genealogist and historian. He is a native of Massachusetts and it would be a succession of travel experiences that propelled his interest in history. A family move to the west coast by car allowed his young eyes to see wonders of the natural world, museums, and much more. In 1998, Jake and his family returned to New England where he would receive his education. Further, on down the road in 2008 a junior in high school, Jake participated in a People to People Student Ambassador Program. A three week stay in Europe not only brought him within reach of the world's most elegant culture, arts, and historic landmarks, but a sense of heritage came over him, especially after a visit to County Kerry, Ireland. Luckily, generations past knew the importance of knowing ancestry and he had been aware that part of his Irish origins lay in this very proximity.
That summer would put Jake into a new trajectory of desiring knowledge. The requirement his high school, the Parker Charter Essential School (Devens, MA) gave him, completing a senior project presented the perfect opportunity to dive into the world of genealogy. By the end, the experiences he amassed were far more than he could have imagined. Along with meeting brilliant minds, inspiring researchers, and making moving discoveries, Jake traveled to the capital to dig through the archives of our national repositories. From that moment, he captivated a dream of pursuing a historian career. That following summer, Jake was offered an internship at the New England Historic Genealogical Society (Boston, MA). The next four years were devoted to undergraduate studies while simultaneously lending his talent to playing the bass. Jake never lost touch with his studies; in December 2013, he completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, Magna Cum Laude and with recognition as a Commonwealth Honors Scholar.
The post-college life led itself to many opportunities. Jake gladly accepted an internship in the Archaeological Collections/Research Department at Plimoth Plantation (Plymouth, Massachusetts). More so than ever, Jake found his perspective of history widened as he observed the everyday life of a modern historical institute. At the Research Library, Jake found himself constantly going back to books that taught him about citizens of old Plymouth Colony and their genealogies. He did not need to look far to pursue his Genealogical Interests and is now volunteering his time at the General Society of Mayflower Descendants Library. Jake is also a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists.

This piece of research is a proof argument and would be of interest to anyone researching the Irish. The report focuses on new techniques, searching for individuals in an urban population, and different types of Irish records.
