Wow:  no one has made comment on this site since 2014 and here it is August 2015.  Not a hotbed of information.  I am currently waiting for DNA results.  I believe that I will show up as the great, great, great, great, great grandson of Benjamin Ellis who died in middle Tennessee in 1802 who was the son of William Ellis b 1704, but you never know.  These same names fly around but the geography is different than what you have found.  I saw one post that put John Ellis I, II, and III in Maryland and Delaware and then eventually in GA which does not jive with my data.  The way that I roll is John Ellis 1642 in what is today Suffolk VA, then on to modern Annapolis MD in 1649 and then into North Carolina and then South Carolina and then into Tennessee but not Washington County and least not for any great period of time.
