Nixon was New Orleans City Attorney and 1811 helped found a Masonic lodge there. He was Adj. Lt. John Nixon in de Jean's 1st Louisiana Militia and fought on the far west bank in the 815 Battle of New Orleans. When the British over-ran hm, he spiked his two cannon and retreaded. The light cannon may be in the War Trophy Room, Whitehall, England? Daughter Martha Bell Nixon wed Peregrine "Perry" Snowden Warfield, of Georgetown, D.C., assistant New Orleans City attorney. He was close kin to base-born Bessie Warfield who wed King Edward VIII of England. He owned the Nixon House Hotel, Biloxi, where he is buried. See his "findagrave" entry. His tomb is still there, but Katrina washed way his broken tombstone. I hope to get him War of 1812 stone. Hi Duane, yes I was born and raised in Niagara Falls but currently live in St. Catharines nearby (which was settled by mostly Loyalists who left the colonies following the American Revolution.) I also have ancestors that fought in the War of 1812. Niagara is full of history. :)

I think this may be my Chesley line? Philip & Elizabth Chesley, Sr., had Mary Chesley who wed Lt. Ralph Hall, Sr. (d Dover 1706), had Judge Kinsley Hall who wed Elizabeth Dudley, had Mercy Hall who wed Dudley Hilton, who had Elizabeth Hilton who wed Christopher Robinson of Exeter, N.H., etc. Not my line: Lt Ralph Hall, Sr., had son John Hall, Sr., who wed Hester Chesley.

My wife's first husband was Partrick Dowling from Southport, N.C. My cousin Hugh Gratton Murray, MD, of Charlotte, N.C., comes from a long line of Presbyterian minister Murrays.
