I was in the process of moving and did not get copies before I left PGH. I have ordered them and will get back to you. I do know that James did not speak of his father and I do not think that Mary ever married him. All we have is a picture and the…

Hi Danielle: Have you located a birth certificate for James C. Raymond (1917- ), so that we can make sure to include those dates and specific locations (ala, the most timely record of his birth) when we identify record groups? Did you locate James…

I checked Ancestry.com and found the Slave Schedules for Arkansas for 1860; Benjamin Blakney was a slave owner and there were several people listed for him with various ages, some black and some mulatto. No names were given for the slaves, just ages…

HI Danielle- Let us know what you find out, and if you can think of anything else, any small hints or stories, please let us know. I'm curious, do you know the name of the family Mary worked for?

Here's the little draft I started on the Amanda Green challenge. The original is in a pretty simple MS Word table. Hopefully you can see how it helps to zero in on locations and timeperiods by correlating "evidence" with the dates/locations of events. --GJ

Hi Danielle:
I read through your notes on the Most Wanted board and wondered .... are you developing aa timeline/map for each of the early families? I'm working on an example for a timeline/map/location for the author of the Amanda Green challenge on Most Wanted. If you will ... it's a little like an event and evidence driven FGS.
Perhaps you've already begun such a little wroksheet. If not, would you like me to send you a copy of the example when I finish it?
I have several ancestors who moved around, just like your Mary Raymond. In particular, one was a miner in Montana. Another moved from New Hampshire to Ohio ca 1812, In both cases, I'm still in search of either key documents or family relations, so my little "table" helps me keep a record of where they had been (and with whom) and _when_ they were at the different places. Those specifics help me find other evidence and records.
The example I'm creating isn't as broad or detailed as those I have for my own family. Mine include dates and locations of the death's of parents, marriages of children, etc. If I know where my ancestor was when his parents died, I note that. Ditto, if I know where my ancestor was when his children married (or died). Sometimes the "evidence" column is a census record, death record or obituary ... but sometimes it's family tradition, or the interview with Aunt Margaret. Over time, I try to get more and more little details and become specific about the time periods they lived in one town or another, etc. If there is a split or divorce, I keep on following both individuals ... and all the children (through their deaths).
I've been using a timeline/map/location like-tool since the 1990s. It has helped me to fill in gaps, find newspaper articles ... I even found a diary once.
Let me know if you want me to send you a copy. --GJ, Most Wanted.
