For what reason did you start genealogy research?

I would love to know something about my father's parents.His father's surname was Burns, first name James. His mother's surname was Dooley. She was from Nova Scotia. His father died long before I was born, and I know nothing about him. My father's mother, maiden name, Helen (Nellie) Dooley, is deceased, and I know very little about her. She supposedly came from Nova Scotia, had a sister, Kitt (Katherine), who lived in Canada. That's all I know. Lots more is documented regarding my mother's side of the family,the Funderburks. My mother, is the last of her family of 6-7 siblings.
