Blankenships in Giles Co, VA
I haven't done as much research on the Blankenships as I have on my Jones side, which ties in with the Blankenships, but thought I'd post some general information and what I can remember right now. Profile Information
- What surnames are you interested in researching?
- Bolling, Ashbrook, Mercer, Miller, Sleet, Jones, Blankenship, Withrow, Tucker, Agee, Kirkpatrick are a few of them. I've been working on my genealogy close to 40 years and have cousins on both sides who have done quite a bit of research so many things, I already have. Our main problem is finding the parents and siblings on Jeremiah Jones. He was born in the late 1700s and was around 18 in 1795 when he built a house on Pigeon Creek in Mercer Co, WV, outside of Oakvale. He married Susannah Agee on 2 Oct 1800 in Franklin Co, VA. The surety on the marriage license was Obadiah Jones and although some people have listed him as Jeremiah's father, we have no proof so I do not list him as a father, brother or uncle because I don't know who he is ~ he disappeared somewhere along the way. Jeremiah and Susannah had at least 10 children and their youngest, Helen, is my connection. She had James Hiley Jones and he married Martha Malinda Blankenship who was the daughter of Richard and Rebecca French Blankenship. Hiley and Martha eventually settled in Putnam Co, WV with their 10 children (not all born there) and eventually had 81 grandchildren, my grandmother being one of them.

- For what reason did you start genealogy research?
- I started researching because I love hearing stories about my family and my maternal grandmother was always talking about people in her family. One day I sat down and started compiling names (around 1970) but didn't get back into it until 1981 when grandma, her sister and I went to WV to see some of her family. She wanted to show me where she grew up on 18 Mile Creek so we went there and I have been addicted since ~ lol
