Religion in the Watauga/Holston Settlements

I find myself curious about something and so far my internet searches have come up dry or off-topic to some extent. What I want to know is what the people who came to live in the Settlements (western…Continue

"No, it's not. It's way too common. I have the problem of multiple people by the exact same name on about three of my branches! There were so very many Joseph Hawkins, all born about the same time, all living in or around the Shenandoah…"

"First off, I would only suggest if your response is to be a long one, mine often are, that you put a space between paragraphs. That will make it easier to read, rather than a wall of words. Welcome aboard, Trishette Martin. I like your name."

What Was Life Like In the Settlements?

A newly discovered Sevier cousin and I have been having a conversation regarding our family's history. An incident occurred during the Siege of Fort Caswell (Watauga) in July of 1776. This has made it's way into the history books on my family. I contend that people most likely gossiped about it. The Settlements, not so huge at that time, that people would likely exchange 'news'. She contends that the cabins were so far apart and moving so often was very difficult, that likely the incident never…See More
