I wonder if you can help me; I am researching the story of a shipwreck, the loss of the sailing ship, Garthpool, off the Cape Verde Islands on 11th November 1929.
All 34 crew members survived and had a bit of an adventure on the Islands for the next couple of weeks, before they were shipped home as ''Distressed British Seamen.''
Amongst the crew was my great grandfather, Christopher Bedford Steel (1907-1943), one of four passengers. I have been researching all the stories behind the crew, who they were, their role and experiences aboard the Garthpool and ultimately what became of them after the wrecking.
One of the crew was a William Joss of Aberdeen, A.B., born in 1869; I did a search of Genesreunited and found your name with a listing for a matching William Joss; I wonder if that is the same one I'm looking for? I don't have a subscription on Genes but I found you listed here and hope you get this message.
I'd love to find out more about William Joss, his character, any records/memories/diary/photos from his experience on the Garthpool and any interesting stories about his life/career, etc.
Well, I hope your William Joss happens to be the same one I'm looking for; I look forward to hearing from you.
