For what reason did you start genealogy research?
As a teenager, I was removed from all my family other than my parents. I never knew the joys of a large family, so when I started searching into my family tree and making contact with other members of my extended family, I was totally hooked. It is exciting to find new members and be able to build a tree to share with my children and their families.
It is exciting to hear from you. I am glad your research is going well. I have had a similar situation where one generation will name a son or daughter the same as the father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, or even skip a generation or three and do the same. Sometimes the names will be switched around in census, marriage, or death records. It can get confusing. Hopefully finding the source for each record will at least lay to rest about one form of the formal name one way or another. And what about the ancestors who did not use any part of their formal given names, but used nicknames or shortened forms of their given names that don't make sense to us?
I invite you to join the Hollingsworth Surname Group at www.genealogywise.com and participate. It is fun to find other Hollingsworth surname people, discover our family history, and how we are related. My maiden name is Hollingsworth. Go to: http://www.genealogywise.com/group/hollingsworthsurname/
My husband's father was born in Scotland, sent to sea at about 14 years old by his father who was a magistrate there....when he got out of the service he lived in Ontario, married Helen White (who's family was well placed in Canadian history & contacts). They had 3 boys, my husband was the middle son. Father retired and moved (alone) to Scotland first then on to England where he married another lady and died in 1968. Their family spelling is Wylie..do you think we are connected?
