The signature of Georg Michael Hüttel from one of his Oaths of Allegiance on 5 September 1738, as found in the Strassburger-Hinke Ships' Lists Compendium.

Michael (he was typically German, and was known by what appears to us to be his "middle" name) married a lady by the name of Anna Maria (or Anne Marie, or Ann Mary, depending on how anglicized the document). They eventually patented 171 acres, which now is a very large part of the current village of Emaus, Lehigh, Pennsylvania, USA.

Again, this is his signature, and not the work of a clerk at the dock. He was still signing his name this way as late as 1760, when shortly after receiving his land patent, he also began asking for improvements in his area via road petitions in old Northampton County, Pennsylvania.

"Jurg" is not how he rendered his name. Although several different records from his day do have him recorded that way, they are always someone else's work and their "understanding" of the man they were dealing with, not his.

And this is my 5G-Grandfather.

I descend from his:
eldest son, George Michael Hittle (Jr),
grandson David,
great grandson Joseph,
2g-grandson Joseph Wesley,
3g-grandson Iden Monroe,
4g-grandson Alferd Wesley.

Am always looking for additional information and have nearly 20,000 of his descendants catalogued, and probably haven't even begun to scratch the surface yet. Let me know if I can help in your search and please introduce yourself to me if we share this heritage!

-Joe
