As he told it: "He already had three different dads in 18 years, and was done." causing him to drop out of high school and join the Air Force. He was in the U.S. Air Force until about 1964..Irony with this act of rebellion is that it most likely saved his life, keeping him from being drafted in Vietnam just years later.
