Share 'Newbie to Legacy software'

I have two questions about my new Legacy software.   Why when I click on the icon on my desktop does it open on my husbands info immediately?  Will this change when I add another family and then open so I can choose which I want?   Also how do I add a child to my sons info without adding a mother?  They are not married.   Thanks for any help..Rita
