I have set up an Avery discussion group. There are 26 Avery researchers on here. I thought by putting our heads together we might find some common relatives and breakdown our brick walls. Please feel free to drop in and post your Avery lines.

Hi Earl - thanks for your interest. My Averys were in Pennsylvania as early as 1784 so don't think there is a connection. The James first name in my line runs from my dad's mother's family, the Byrne/Burns family My grgrgrandfather James Byrne b. 1817 is the first I can find with the name. I don't especially care for the name. James is a good name for a butler.

Hey maybe you are related to John Avery the pirate. He was known as Long Ben Avery. There is a book about him Freebooters of the Red Sea. Wouldn't that be a hoot! Thanks for writing.
  • Charles Robert Warthen

Earl I have all of group one (8) and group two (6) members who are R1b1b2a2b5* in the Warthen-Worthen sur name group. I am in group two. 4 of us go back to Alban Warthen b.1788, murded 1833 in Utica Ohio. None of us can find Alban's Parents. We think he was born in Maryland but no proof. Charlie
