Maria Juliana Thomasa Alanis was her name, as far as I can tell. And, I know her lineage - she was not Indian - at least not from California. I can go back two more generations on her and all of them had surnames. Usually, the lack of a surname, for that period, was an indicator of being an Indian but since her parents and grandparents had surnames, they were not likely considered Indians by the California missions. More research would have to be conducted in the Mexican record if you are curious about the possibility. But, as for what I have seen - there is no indication she was an Indian.
And by the way, Mutsun, is not part of Esselen Nation. They have their own organization - Amah-Mutsun, for Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties. They are not federally recognized.
