This is a great social networking site ... new, but let's all pitch in and make it one of the best on Internet. Please invite your genealogy friends to join me.
  • Sharon Gillis

I look forward to connecting with new cousins!
I see Kimball on your "list" My GG Grandmother is Mary Eliza Kimball (1822--1890). I follow the Kimball line back to England (Thomas ~1633-1676)
  • Sharon Gillis

Richard & Ursula are my 10 G Grandparents!
  • Ben Sayer

Hi, Ruby. I see a great deal of potential in this site.
  • Tracy Glatz

No, I've not been to Furnas Co. The Conrad C. Scott family was very migratory. They were originally from Nodaway Co., Missouri and in 1880, 1885, and 1890 they were in the Furnas Co. censuses. However, the youngest son was born in Colorado in 1888. They eventually ended up in Johnson Co. Kansas. It's been a real challenge to research them when they didn't stay put for any length of time. Someday I hope to make a big trip....someday.

    Hi Ruby,
I'm glad you found me already. I'd sure love it if you would join the Generation Maps Fan group. Thanks.
  • Nora Galvin

Ruby, I saw your post about Cwrittehin, County Galway. I suspect it is misspelled. Usually a record like this would name the parish or townland where the person was born. I don't see anything like this in the list of parishes in Co. Galway. There were many, many townlands, some of which no longer exist. Have you tried studying an old map of Co. Galway to see if you find something similar? Good luck! Nora in CT

    Hi Ruby,
Well, I'm on. Now the question is, will I be able to figure out what to do here (are you out there, Thomas?). It looks like there is a lot of activity, so this should be interesting - sort of like being in a big city you've never been to before. Thanks for the invitation. GK
  • Greta Koehl

This is way too much fun. Fixing up the look of my page, joining groups, finding genea-blogging friends...
  • Jennifer Eklund, PLCGS

Thank you Ruby for the friend request. Happy networking!
  • Carol Vannoy

Hi Ruby..thanks for the request! Jesse Vannoy is my father in laws 3rd great grandfather. This has been a tricky side to search. Seems that there are so many Vannoys in Wilkes, and they are not all related or at least they don't think they are..lol.
  • Carol Vannoy

I know he said he didn't think they were related to some but from what I have found they have to be. At least that's what the records say. They have never looked back into the family at all so I guess they wouldn't know ..off to grocery shop then back to searching later..thank you so much!

I am at the Family History Expo in Sheridan, WY. It is fantastic and having such a great time. Lots of vendors and now I'm set up in the Blog Bistro so look for more "great" comments from me.
  • Marilyn Smith

Ruby, I am also researching Angevines, and Coutants from New Rochelle.
  • Diana Goulet

Ruby, I am very new to this web site, so hope I am leaving the message in the right location. I am American, but living at present in Glenamaddy, in far eastern County Galway. I have asked a few people about your Galway placename, but no one so far has recognized it at all--in either English or Irish. I wondered if it might be an Irish spelling, but so far no luck. Wanted to add, though, that one of the early Irish Taoiseach's (read that T-shook) which is the equivalent of the prime minister was named Costello and he owned this house at one time, which he inherited through his wife's family. I don't know any thing about her, but since he was so prominent, it should be easy to look him up, and find out where the two of them came from. It is a long shot, but you might get lucky.

Hi Ruby, I was shocked when I found you. Please contact me via my email address, need to visit with you about Brownell surname.........remember that one? I can't seem to find the stuff - old age really setting in. Need to visit with you about it.
  • Marilyn Smith

Thank you so much. I hope all goes well with you tomorrow.
  • Marilyn Smith

Excellent. So happy to hear that things went well for you. Yes, laptops are really handy. Thanks so much for info about the letters.
  • Marilyn Smith

My Vannoy is from Andrew Vannoy, through his daughter Martha Ann. She married Rev. James Madison Barrow in Monroe Co.,IN. Do we have a connection there?
  • Marilyn Smith

I don't know of a second marriage for Andrew. I show him born around 1806 in KY and married to Rebecca Hooke of KY. They move to IN. Now that would be so interesting if we were related through this line as well.
  • Marilyn Smith

Sadly I know nothing more of Andrew. Sorry.
  • Jenni Creekmore Leve

Ruby unfortunately my Aunt Pollyanna Creekmore passes away May 3, 2009. She would have been 89 Sept. 23, 2009.

  • Janet Brigham

Hi, Ruby -- Yes, they were in Utah, which is the only stretch of their history for which I have documentation. Supposedly they came via N. Carolina, and prior to that N. Jersey. How can we compare notes? Thanks, Janet
  • E. Harold Vannoy

Hi Ruby, it has been a long time! I now have some time to do some genealogy again. I have the same question - any new information on who were the parents of my gr-gr-gr-grandfather Elijah Vannoy?
  • Kimberly Paul

    Thanks for the invite, Ruby:

I will try to make it to the next meeting. According to our surname lists, it looks like we have some of the same surnames. I also have Roberts, Moody, and Platt, although I didn't list Moody & Platt.
  • Kimberly Paul

My Moody's were in the midwest, they're connected to the Moody Bible Institute. My Platt's were also from NY State & they married into my Smith line. I have a Rachel Platt who married Lockwood Smith & she was his 3rd wife. Does that sound familiar?
  • Kimberly Paul

    Ruby:

Thank you so much for inviting me. My husband & I had a great time & we both enjoyed the movie as well.
The Platt's & Smith's are connected in my tree. As I mentioned before, I have a Rachel Platt that married Lockwood, she was his 3rd wife. Some sources say that Rachel was married first to a Jonathan Platt. Lockwood named one of his sons, Platt Smith, & since then, the Platt & Smith names have been connected.
The Moody's are connected to Lockwood Smith as well. One of Lockwood's descendants, I believe one of his granddaughters married a Shepard Moody.
We have a lot of information on Lockwood Smith Sr., he is mentioned in the book about the history of Bradford County in PA. He was also a Revolutionary War Hero as well.
I met a lot of cousins who are also researching Lockwood Smith's family. I found that the history of this family is fascinating.
  • shirley Ann McLaughlin Gorman

No I'm working on Cranstone in Hamilton County NB. And Strausbaugh who were in Buffalo County for a short time.
  • Kimberly Paul

    Hi Ruby:

Lockwood Smith and his 3rd wife, Rachel Platt; lived in Bradford CO, PA. Jonathon Platt lived in Sackett's Mill's, NY, I believe.

  • Harry Van Noy

    Hello Ruby:
Do you have any info on a Fred Vannoy/Viola? that is in the 1930 census of Audrain Co. Mo?
Thanks, Harry Van Noy [descendant of Mason Vannoy]
  • Harry Van Noy

    Hello Ruby:
My line goes: Mason Vannoy, George Briscoe Vannoy, Darby Cantrell Vannoy, Fred C. Vannoy. Fred Clifford Vannoy is my father. He died in 1968. The only thing he ever said was when his half-sister died, he left home. He was born in 1901, Chicago IL. He is in the 1910 census of Terra Haute IN. In 1920, there is a Fred Vannoy in New Orleans. Then in 1930, there is a Fred Vannoy/Viola. The first time he shows up in Anderson IN, is in 1932. I was born in 1943. There are three Fred Vannoy's born in 1901/02. I now think this one is not him, but I need to connect this MO Vannoy to someone. I also got an email from a lady in Audrain Co MO a couple of years ago. that said there is a man named Marvin Vannoy, who did write a book on his Vannoy line that lives (at that time) in the county. I think the town is Mexico? Thanks, Harry in IN

    Ruby,

    In July you wrote:
James Primrose (father of John) was born 23 Sept 1812 in Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland to Adam Primrose and Janet Wilson. He married Elizabeth Collins on 13 April 1833 in Bonhill, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. She was born in Dumbarton on 5 April 1815 to Robert Collins and Flora Douglas. James Primrose died 13 May 1904 in Iowa.

I am researching a clockmaker, Douglas of Bonhill, Dumbarton. ( D. 12/09/1891) George was residing in Dumbarton and his wife was Christian McLintock or Douglas

Do you have any details of your Flora douglas?

    Yours aye,
    William

    Ruby,
I just joined today and was browsing the Illinois group and saw your request about Putnam County. You may have already heard this, but I was there in 1999 and found that their courthouse won't publish their vital records at all. Even when you are there (at least at that time), you can only look at a marriage index with names and a date. It won't show the other party's name. There was a book at the library that had some of the really old marriages - a history. Apparently they believe (or at least did then) that their records are NOT public records and that they are forbidden by Illinois law to make them public. Definitely not a genealogy-friendly county, unfortunately for those of us who have people there.

Good luck. I'm totally sympathetic. I got lucky by meeting someone there who had taken pix at the cemetery where a lot of my people were, but it is a tough county.

    Hello Ruby,

I am new to this group and am not sure how it works. You wrote an article called Murder and Marriage. You were looking for information on Joseph F. Valenta. I have a Joseph Valenta in my relation. His father and mother were on a homestead in Schuyler, NE with their daughter and son-in-law Felix Sefcik in 1880. The Valenta family came from Cermna, Bohemia. The original Valenta family first came to Kewaunee County, WI. I don't know if this is a clue for you or not, but if you think there is some potential, my e-mail address is neargbwi@gmail.com.
