There is a possibility that Peyton served with two of his brothers there as well and they are Charles M. and John W. Bailey. John W. married Matilda Johnson. Matilda was the sister of Selena (Johnson) Smith who was married to J. O. Smith and they were my paternal great-grandparents.

Sounds fascinating. Some experiences of a similiar nature are reported at historic sites here in Texas. The Aloma and Goliad are two that have been written about. Have some Wallace ancestors that lost their lives while serving under the ill-fated Fannin command.

We have re-enactors in the spring here in Texas at Goliad and San Jacinto. Have gone to the candlelight vigil tours at Goliad.

However, the prairies and old frontier forts get me caught up and nearly swept away. Belknap and Griffin are a couple of my favorites.

Know you enjoy your Gettysburg experiences. Shelby Foote made the Civil War come alive. Agree with him regarding going to the sites at the times that actually occurred to get the real sense of what it may have been like such as the foilage, weather and so forth. March seems to be times that stand out.

Reynolds was a civil war soldier and I would like to join to that group as soon as I make positive he was there. In response to your questions about my Raudebaughs: They were in Berks, Pa then moved to Juniata in the early 1830s.  They arrived in Wayne, Ohio in 1838.  I do not believe they are connected with your Raudebaughs, as none of the names in your list are familiar.  It is possible that there is a connection farther back in the mid-1700s but I don't know it.  As for the Native American connection, while many of us have stories of a inner-marriage, my DNA shows strictly European, which was quite disillusioning considering our family legends.  BUT I recently saw a show on the History channel that the Cherokees actually have European DNA, different from other Native Americans.  So all of us who thought we were Cherokees, may in reality have that connection after all!  So much  to learn.  Sorry I haven't been much help on your question.

Hello Jim, My Avery ancestors were from Herstmonceaux, Sussex.  The first Avery was Ann Avery who married Richard Eastland in 1722 at Etchingham, Sussex.  I can trace the line to Edward Avery born 1596 at Warbleton, Sussex.  Rhis is farther back than your family- but maybe there is a connection.

Jim, We believe my G-Grandfather, John McGinty was in the Civil War, but not sure. My father use to say my grandfather told him John McGinty & a brother worked on the levees, but not sure. We can not find any information on him, just his marriage to Mary Barker, can not find any information on her.Where do you work & would they have any names or info across from where you work? Do you have any images for a Rose Davis Alexander? She died May 1909 in Lisbon. Her husband was Melford Alexander. Rose would be the sister of my 3 x greatgrandfather Thomas who left Southampton, England, in 1870 and settled in Quebec's Eastern Townships. Their brother Arthur and Frederick immigrated. I believe Arthur moved to the States.

Hi, Jim ... Thanks for your inquiry re: my Wheeler, Perry, and Colby lines, and a possible Avery line.

Your Wheeler and Perry lines do not match up with mine since my Wheeler line is from Albany, New York and my Perry line is rather short and is from New York.  Prior to New York I have Joseph, Sr. (1773-1841) and Joseph, Jr., but I do not know where they were located.

I have but one Avery, Eliza Avery (1838-1893) who married Elias Brown (1817-1887).

My Colby line is from Amesbury, MA and, prior to that, from Horbling, Lincolnshire, England.  If you have not been in contact with Ronald Colby already, I suggest you contact him   His website is located at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~colby/ which also gives his contact information.  He is a wealth of knowledge on the Colby line and I feel sure he would be most interested in seeing George Colby's set of journals.

I just did a Google search of me and got your asking me two years ago about a Frederick Mulholland. There was also a James in your family. I have done nothing on this site after signing up. No idea why I did not reply.  But my Mulhollands went from Canada to MN to WI. I have a tree on Ancestry and a gal has taken all my people and added them to her tree with NY Mulhollands. I pointed out it is the wrong family but she did not remove my family that I know of. I can try to find out who she is if you do not have Ancestry. I found the NY Mulhollands pretty easily. It seems I am related by marriage.  The "Peck" was actually of German descent and was originally "Beck".  The Peck's are an old family from England.

However, these German "Beck" Pecks went to Tennessee where they intermarried with other Germans and those Germans are related to my mother!

I am familiar with where you live. I had family that lived in that area. I travel also when I do genealogy. When I worked at the Railroad Museum in Strasburg, Pa. The man the ran the Museum was named George Hart, his mother owed think it was the Ma and Pa Railroad.

The Kendigs were in the early years from southern part of Lancaster County, my one ancestor was married to a Kendig. I lived in Mountville and did not know anything about the people you were talking about. I do know that the early Kendig's I am talking about were mennonites. Do you happen to know who your orginal ancestor was in the Koch family? I had bought a condensed book on the Hessian Soldiers that were prisoners here in Pennsylvania, in Lancaster City, on the same side of Duke St. as the Elks Club. I had found information on Andreas Koch who was captured and brought here and then made his way to New York State.

I didn't know if you knew this or not but, his name was changed to Coe, If you feel there is a connection I could hook you two guys up. Jim, This format is really new to me.  Stuck in email and FB. So please forgive. If I'm not doing this right, let me know.....don't let me suffer in silence! I have been doing genealogy research (such as it is) for about 10 years now but don't seem to being making a whole lot of progress, relatively speaking. There is just so much to learn.  So, it appears that the lines I have had the most success with are in SC, NC, VA area.  My family up north is a total dead end, brick wall!

there is no obvious connection to My Byrne family. but I know there was a large family of them in Wexford, Newtownbarry in Ferns. The 1911 and 1901 Ireland census might give you a better idea of their town. From the dates you gave me it appears that your Ascending Byrne is close in age to my Thomas Byrne born in 1832, which could make them brothers in a large family or cousins.

Jim, There is no connection to Burns or Byrne in NY that I know about.

So far I haven't made any Byrne connections to New York, but your James Byrne is offered as an Ancestry.com hint for me all the time.  My James Byrne (my great-uncle) was born in Newtownbarry/Bunclody, Wexford, Ireland ~1876. My research indicates that he emigrated to America in 1893, and I know he lived in Denver (with his sister/my grandmother Sarah Byrne Murphy) ~1898-1900.  Another relative has family letters from Ireland that refer to Jimmy dying in a horse accident ~1901.
