Welcome! Do you have contacts in the Netherlands who can call around and find persons with Sol surname (any spelling) ????
It may be easier to reach me at lwthroop {at} aol {dot} com

Have you found anyone with the Sol surname deriving from Belgium/the Netherlands who is available for a Y-DNA test....the only proof I trust for determining relationships????!!!!
  • Rosemary Taylor

I see you are interested in Van Sallee, which may be a different spelling of the name you are researching. There was certainly something odd going on with Sallee, and Van Sallee, if they are the same family. A long time ago, I had a music teacher named Soule. Look for a private message.

from Hungars Parish Records for 1660-1661, Northampton Co., VA
buried Isaac Vansalt, servt of Edw Smith 8bt 7th

I found the item in Virginia Vital Records. printed Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc 1982, Baltimore. Indexed by Judith Mc Ghan.
pp.389-392 is the following list of the births, deaths and marriages in Hungars Parish for 1660-1661. The items are taken from the Records in the Clerk's Office, Book of Orders, Deeds, etc for that date. The old Parish Register has been lost many years.
I found it very helpful to look at the land deeds to see who owned land, to whom it was left, who were the neighbors. There is a printed book of early Northampton Deeds that I saw about 15 years ago.

for Isaac vanSalt, there may be a bond as a servant which may list parents

I have found bonds mixed in with Deeds; there might be a group call bonds and sureties also
  • James Alfred Locke Miller Jr.

I mention this because of your Hilton Head Island posting and two of your coats-of-arms show a millstone's iron support yokes. My German, Cabarrus Co., N.C., Millers, in the early 1800's, ran the Sossaman-Miller-Foil mill on Dutch Buffalo Creek. Hilton Head is named for Capt. Wm. Hilton, Jr., of Eliot, Maine; I descend his lawyer brother, Edw. Hilton, Sr., of Exeter, N.H. My grandmother's sister, Mrs. Lillian Elizabeth "Muttie" Woollen Lee, wed the son of Charles Carter Lee, older brother of Gen. Rbt. Edw. Lee, Sr., CSA. Her son was LtCol Robert Henry "Marse" Lee, West Point class of 1912. Lillian's fourth child, Mrs. Soule Olive Lee Henderson, was born just after "Lee Family of Virginia" was published in the 1890's by Edm. Jennings Lee.. I have no idea where her "Soule" name comes from? Jim, Southport, N.C.I descend Edm. Bellinger, Sr., Landgrave, of Ashepoo and Tombodly Baronies, S.C.
  • James Alfred Locke Miller Jr.

John "Henry" Miller seems to have to Cabarrus Co., N.C. just after the Revolution fro Prussia or Germany. I guess his dad was a Miller who wed a Haro (German, not Spanish).

Thanks for your information on Josephine Porter.  I really need information as to who her parents were.  None of the family that I know has that info.
