My West Family came from Georgia to the Dallas, Texas area between 1860 and 1880. Two of the brothers (my g-grandfather being one) came to Oklahoma between 1900-1910. I believe we are somehow descended from a group of West that had settled in Baldwin County, Georgia (moved from Craven County, North Carolina) around 1810 but haven't been able to prove anything.
My West family originated in Macduff on the coast of Banffshire in NE Scotland. My maternal grandmother was Alexandrina (1866-1899) ninth child of James West, Shipmaster, and Margaret Reid. She married James West and my father was their only child. Alexandrina's younget sister, Georgina, apparently emigrated to the USA via Canada in 1907 and the only information I have about her is that in 1916 (from her father's obituary) she was married and in New York.
My West Family are from North Norfolk England.
I have traced my tree back to the 1650 period to Edmund West of Morston Norfolk.
We were concentrated in the Hempstead, Edgefield, Cromer area for a good 250 years before spreading further south in Norfolk and one part of the family emigrating to the USA in the 1830's.
By doing a DNA test i have linked to a George Page West in the USA.
My aim is to find a definite link between a very large West Family in Sheringham Norfolk in the 1800's and my own.In the 1881 census of Beeston Regis just north of Sheringham 10% of the population was called West .
DNA testing is the way.
My West family originate in Arlesey Bedfordshire England. My grandfather though, Benjamin West, was born in Hampstead and when he married my grandmother Lily Rosina Norris, they lived in Edgware Middlesex, where I was born.
I am looking for information on a Parthenia (Parlee) West born in 1857 in Canada,Kentucky she 1st Married Benjamin Franklin Williamson, 2st Husband was Alex Reynolds, Parthenia West is my G-Grandmother According to her Death certificate Her father was Josh West and her mother was Winnie Smith.
My West family came from England with Francis West who eventually settled in Tolland, CT. He then moved to Oneida, NY, Beaver Co, PA, Monroe Co, Ohio and Dearborn Co, Indiana. His daughter, Roxanna married Thomas Steele. Their child was Warren Steele, my great great grandfather.
I'm currently on a West Quest! My maternal grandfather is Edward West, he's 87-years-old and getting frail. We love talking about family history together so I'm working hard on this line. I'm descended from George W. West (b. abt. 1819 in Spartanburg County, SC.) He married Irish immigrant Jennet or Jenny Cowan before 1840. They lived in Union County, SC in 1840 and 1850, then moved to Forsyth County, Georgia in about 1853.
I'm also VERY interested in connecting with my West cousins who went on to Yell County, Arkansas in the 1870s-1890s. It's sad to me that we got so disconnected over a 100 year period.
I'm looking forward to meeting you all and talking West shop. :)
Jennifer, I haven't seen any references to an Edward West in my line. In Georgia, they were in Baldwin County, Houston County, Sumter County and Schley County.
I have made progress on the 2 sons that stayed in Dallas, they married into very established Dallas families. My great-grandfather (and another of the sons) moved to Oklahoma.
Though my grandparents lived in Arkansasa (Hazel Valley/Fayetteville), I don't know that anyone moved there permenantly.
I think the line I am tracking came from Craven County, North Carolina and then directly to Georgia.
Darn, I think we're not researching the same line then. Mine were geographically different. That's the futility of such a common surname sometime. Back to the drawing board!
Thank you Susan, and Jennifer, I am watching this board, as the families seem to be large and siblings moved around. My Great Grandfather moved away from Fayette County PA (from a very large family, to Iowa and d. in Kansas. My quest is the West line to Mathew West, b 1598 and d England, 1659 and the pieces in between as there was activity in NJ and RI. As I mentioned, families were large, and sometimes siblings moved away like my Great Grandfather.
So very true, DWest. Has anybody on this board joined the West DNA Project? My grandfather is going to take the test and that might help us figure out our major groups. Here's the link: West DNA Project
My g grandmother was Arsula West whose father was William West (married Cassandra Walters): his father was Jefferson West (married Nancy Sudduth); his father was Richard West (married Charity Dickerson); his father was Littleberry West (married Tabitha South); his father was William West(married Keziah Martin?); his father was Francis West(married Susanna Littlepage). I can get them to Mississippi and East Texas but lost them in the swamp. I would appreciate any assistance.
Hoping to find any information on Stephen Sharpe West, born about 1814 in Parson Drove, Cambridgeshire. I have bits here and there, but I'd like to create a full profile.

Hi Everyone,

I've detailed more about them in a blog post here: George W. West - Who's Your Daddy?
I'm also VERY interested in connecting with my West cousins who went on to Yell County, Arkansas in the 1870s-1890s. It's sad to me that we got so disconnected over a 100 year period.
