Parks/Parke/Park/Parkes Surname

For those researching the surnames: PARKS, PARKE, PARK, or PARKES.
  • Sharon Meeker

I have been tracing descendants of William Parke (c. 1754-1803) and wife Mary Bowlby of Lebanon Township, Hunterdon Co. NJ. Their 6 children (John, David, Abner, Sarah, Rebecca and Maria) were all connected as victims or witnesses to the murders of the Castner family of Changewater (Warren County, NJ) in 1843. Some of these Parke descendants moved to Ohio, Indiana and Iowa. I will check my files if you suspect you have someone from this line.

What a coincidence, Midge, so am I ;)
  • Lee Kinnan Fazzari

Midge, I was there! Here I am introducing my son to his first known ancestor in the US. (photo taken in 1987). Thomas, whom I mentioned below, is a 3rd great-grandson of Robert. (Robert>Thomas>Thomas>Thomas>Josiah>Thomas). I have not worked on much documentation before Thomas (1749-1819) but have loads of info on his descendants.
  • Julie Cahill Tarr

What a great photo, Lee! I have information on Robert and Thomas and Thomas' children (just names and dates), although I haven't verified all of the info with real sources as of yet. I myself come through Robert's son Samuel and I do have a lot of information on this line. Would love to share info!
  • Lee Kinnan Fazzari

My line from Thomas is through his son James Nesbit Park and first wife, Margaret McKinney then their son Orrin and Sarah Seward. Orrin had 14 children and was my grandfather's grandfather. My grandfather and his sister did a lot of research on his father's siblings and their descendants. They were prolific letter writers and loved to visit relatives to gather info.

Of Thomas' children's descendants I have: Daniel (8 generations of descendants through 2 children, 3 gen for the rest), Mary (1 gen), Elizabeth (3 gen), Susannah (1 gen), Samuel (3 gen), James (8 gen, mostly complete through abt 1960, mixed since then), Thomas Jr (3 gen), Joseph (5 gen), Amos (1 gen).

Is there a place on GW to have a collaborative family tree that we can all add to?

Hi everyone! My kinfolks ended up in Texas but I have traced them back to Illinois, Washington County in the 1850's. If you need help with Park, parks, that traveled to Texas, let me know!
  • Donna Toole

I'm a descendant of James Parks born in Virginia abt 1791, and his second wife, Eliza Jane, and only seen in two censuses in Blackford (1850) and Delaware (1860) Counties in Indiana. He is my brick wall and has been for my family for many years. Anyone have any Parks history in Indiana? I cannot find James' first wife and family and am unable to trace him back to Virginia.
  • Floyd Parks

Well I guess I should join up and contribute.
  • Robert J. Park

I am new to this group and have had a great deal of difficulty trying to trace my Park Family origins.  My earliest trace with absolute certainty is only back to my great grandfather Robert Park who was born (1849) in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.  There is a strong possibility of one more generation back to a William Park and Mary (Paton) Park in Hamilton, Ontario.  Both William Park and Mary Paton were from Scotland and met and married in Ontario, Canada.

My great grandfather Robert Park, with his wife Jerusha (Joslin) Park and three children moved from Ontario to Saskatchewan, Canada and my father was born there.  My parents were married in Saskatchewan and came to Oregon on their honeymoon and stayed.

"IF" William and Mary Park were my great great grandparents, their  family moved into the Detroit, MI area.

I am researching the family of Caroline Park (1824-1879), the daughter of Anson Earl Park (1809-1882) and Amelia Park (1806-1874). Anson and Amelia were from Connecticut. These individuals are buried in New Hartford, Oneida County, New York.

I am researching the Cyrenius Parke (1754- 1828) and Elizabeth Hoffmann (1770-1848) in Fredericksburg, Ontario. I presume he descends from Robert Parke (1580-1665) the first Parke ancestor in North America, but I may never prove it. I have found DNA to be very useful so far and it at least has proven a genetic link to Cyrenius and Elizabeth Parke.

  • Bonnie Bradford

We are descended from Cyrenius Parke on my mother's side (my 3x gr grandfather) and I wanted to know if we were also descendants of Robert who was purportedly our ancestor.  I had a male cousin who is a Parks take a DNA test through the Parke Society and it proved that he was descended from Robert Parke so that solved the mystery.
