My family has roots in both St. Charles and St. Louis Counties. I am researching the following families: Reiley, Ruby, Sanguinette, Turner, Eiler, Audrain, Wells, Posey, and Dickman. The Reiley's have been a major brick wall in my research. One of these days, I'll find a way through it.
  • Stella Marie Valle Kutz

I am interested in Jefferson & Washington Counties in Missouri. Valle, Johnson, Baker, Hopkins, Hampton, Stout & Robins
  • Alison Morton

My g.g.g.grandfather, Jacob Crow, came to Dent County, MIssouri sometime around 1831 from Illinois. I'm descended through his son, Stith O Crow. Missouri names are Crow, Sanders, Coppedge, and Murray.
  • Beth Ann Cosselmon

I am new to this site and am researching Schuyler County, Missouri. Some of my BRUNER, HICKS, LASLEY, NEAL families are buried in Fabius Cemetery, off of M-136 just 5 miles west of Downing, MO. I had taken photos of gravesites in this location last year during the Bruner family reunion and would share them with anyone wanting them.
Also included are Williams, Dunn, Monteith, Fincher, Ballanger, but they are generally extended to married into the family status.
I plan to make a formal platting of the cemetery on my next visit.
Anyone researching the: BRUNER, HICKS, LASLEY, NEAL families?

I am researching Abraham MARCIA/MERCIER who was born, supposedly in Missouri, 12 October 1828. He appears on the 1850 Ralls County Census as a laborer in the household of Thomas H. and Nancy Graham. Later that year, he married Nancy Thomas HAWKINS, a daughter of John Franklin HAWKINS, a prominent Ralls County landowner. In 1856, he acquired 160 acres in Macon County. He later immigrated to Texas and died 23 April 1887 in Ennis, Ellis County, Texas. I have been unable to trace him back before 1850 and would appreciate any assistance. Thanks.
  • Robert Hamilton

My ancestors are from the St. Louis area. FASNET, WOODS, HAMILTON
Fasnet also spelled Fasnut lived in Ferguson
Woods, my Grandfater, supposedly came from Canada (family story) where his name was DUBOIS- which is translated into Woods. I find on three of his records where he claims to be from Maine--I can't prove either. He died in 1900
My Grandmother mairried B Frank Hamilton in 1906 and moved to Pontiac Illinois until 1920 when she moved back
  • Michael A. Orr

My ancestors come from Bunker and Ironton Missouri. I was born in St. Louis. I am doing research on the Orr's. My Pet project is called the Missouri Orr's and includes everyone born, lived, died in Missouri. I firmly believe that all the Orr's in Missouri are related but have not proven it yet. If you have any Orr's in your line(s) i would like to get information about them and any photos of them you would care to share. I am posting this file on-line at Ancestry.com and already havee a partial file on www.tribalpages.com and is called "The Missouri Orr's"

Do you have any Cherokee in your family?

    Jeannie Rathbone in OR :)
  • Beth Ann Cosselmon

Yes, but not sure what line, I think Hicks, I can't prove it. Although all the women have the very strong indian high cheekbones and jet black hair.My great grand mother was so ashamed of being indian she never let it out until she was over 90 something. At that time she pulled out a childs indian costume and showed it to her niece, the costume is long gone but the stories remain. My mother has always claimed to be cherokee. If you like I can give you my direct lines to the Hicks. Thanks for your interest any help you may give will be an answer to many sleepless nights. Beth
  • Kathryn Keller

    To Beth Ann Cosselmon,

About HICKS: There is a huge Cherokee family tree site URL that I have pasted below in my post. It has many 1000s of names. The URL brings up the home page. Go to bottom of page and click on index. It is one of my very favorite sites.

Thank you Jeannie. I have struggled to get the correct web sites available, then end up trailing off to something else that looks interesting and not focusing on what is at task. I will try the URL and let you know what I find. Beth
  • Jeannie Rathbone

    To Beth Ann :)

I know exactly what you are talking about. I find myself drifting from one dead end to another. It is hard to keep q focus. I hope you enjoy your visit to Hick's tree. I find it awesome. Would like to hear if you find anything of use.

  • Beth Ann Cosselmon

I checked out the URL on Cherpkees and saw so many references of HICKS family, I will need alot of time to check it out. I need to find:
Isaac HICKS b.1729 MD d. 1812 Sullivan Co, TN
Stephen HICKS b. 1760 VA d. 1840 Sullivan Co, TN
Stephen I HICKS b. 1795 Greene Co, TN d.1870 Schuyler Co, MO
Hannah HICKS b. 1831 Greene Co, TN d. Downing, Schuyler Co, MO

With these dates in mind, I believe the HICKS family joined the Trail of Tears between 1838 and 1839.

If anyone can help me on this I would appreciate it. Thank you so much.

  • Kay Adkins

My husband's ancestor, James Adkins, lived in various areas of Missouri and is buried in the Platte City Cemetery. He was involved in the Bloody Kansas battles. He died while in office as a MIssouri State Senator. We keep hoping to find a picture of him from his days in State government, but apparently they all burned up with the old Capitol building.
  • Lydia McVay

My gggrandfather was only on the 1860 census in Independence, Missouri. I'd like to know how long he was there before and after 1860. Do yearly tax rolls from that time period exist for Missouri? And if they do, who would be likely to have the tax rolls or copies of them?
  • John Newmark

Lydia, The Mid-Continent Public Library (in Jackson County) appears to have the IRS Tax Assessments from 1862-1865. (Ancestry.com has a database from 1862-1918, but it's not complete.) The Kansas City Public Library has city directories since 1859. I'm not sure what area they cover, but both Kansas City and Independence are in Jackson County.
  • Lydia McVay

Thank you, John. That's a big help.

Looking for someone in Randolph County or access to their marriage records for Ruby BLOODWORTH who married an unknown SMILEY in Mobery or Monroe, Missouri. Ruby was born approx 1903.
  • Phillip Marr

I am trying to find information about relatives in CLAY County. My great grandfather John Wesley Marr moved to that county about 1850 and left there in 1880. All his children were born in Clay County. His children who remained behind when he left are: Alice Annie Marr (married Berry Wade); James Berryman Marr (married Myrtle Duncan) and Virginia Motie Marr (married Daniel Lewis). John also left three daughters buried in Clay County: Emily 1866-68); Helen (1868-76); and Georgie (1872-74). If anyone has information about these people and/or if anyone is related to them I would like very much to hear from you. I'm also wondering if anyone is taking pictures of headstones in Clay County cemeteries. Unfortunately I don't know where any of my relatives are buried. That you for any consideration. Phillip.
  • Linda Smith

    Hi All,
I am looking for information for my paternal Grandmother's parents. She is Hellena (Helen) Francsis Hennemann and was born in St. Louis. MO. My Great Grandfather was Frank HENNEMANN, born June 1841 (possibly in Danzig, Germany) and died in 1909 in Omega, IL.. He and a brother immigrated to the St Louis, MO area in 1864. He married Anna HORPOTSKI, (born 1849 in Missouri - 1932 in Alpha, IL), the 13th of June 1868 in St. Louis. They had 5 children: Maggie 14 Jun 1871 - 1895; Anna 1873 -abt 1880; Frank 20 Jun 1880 - ?; Henry Hennemann 1883 - ?; and Hellena Francis 23 Oct 1892 - June 1982. Both the HENNEMANN and HORPOTSKI lines dead end with Frank and Anna. I have found the family in the 1880 (in St. Louis, MO), 1900, and 1910 ( in IL) census. Any help furthering these two lines would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Linda

  • Jerry Cranford

I am researching Lauderdales, Tyners, Shields, and Chaneys in the southwest of Missouri. Newton, McDonald counties primarily but my family has roots all over the state. Some of them came to Missouri because they were on their way to Indian Territory (Trail of Tears) and some came for the land. The Cherokees in my family came in the early 1830's and included the names of Lauderdale, Shields, and Tyner. My Chaneys came for the land and were in Cedar and Montgomery Counties in the early 1830's as well. I would be willing to discuss any mutual relatives with just about anyone.

    Thanks

I see the name Searcy came up in my Kentucky group! Hubby's GG Grandpa Edward (Edwin) Remington Adkins (Family moved from Owens, KY, before he was born in Platte Co, MO 4 May 1852) married a Harriet Searcy and moved to UT, but then she disappears. Anyone know anything at all about a Harriet Searcy? I've always suspected her family followed the same migration pattern as the Adkins.

Researching Heishman's in and around Independance.
  • Katie Heitert Wilkinson

Greetings, all. I'm here because I'm interested in the area around Newton and Jasper Counties. My maternal grandfather, Joseph Dernier Kearney (b: 1892) was fostered by Martin and Mary Kearney who had a farm in Sarcoxie Prarie. Joseph travelled from New York City to Missouri at the age of three on an orphan train. Martin Kearney was originally from Scranton, Pa. and I've wondered what brought him all the way to Missouri. In my research I learned that there were a large number of Kearney's living in the area, so I've theorized that he might have had extended family there. Haven't been able to find anything to support mt theory yet.

All of my Missouri family come from the Kansas border region. Mostly Johnson County. Here are a list of the names, and the state they migrated from: Coleman of Indiana, Hedden of Indiana, Edwards of Ashe Co, North Carolina (*note* the Edward family also lived in Marshal, Saline Co, Mo and Lafayette Co, Mo.), Smith of Ohio, Elliott of Virginia and Kentucky, Talley of Franklin, Tennessee, Hayden of Indiana, Craig of Indiana, Smythe of Georgia and Kentucky, Russell of Alabama, Fox of Tennessee, Collins of Virginia (possible Quakers), Smith of Kentucky, and Lundy of Grayson Co, Virginia (possible Quakers). I know next to nothing about the Fox family, and the Georgia and Kentucky Smythe and Smiths are still quite a mystery for me. Any help is appreciated! :)
