1900 Census:  I haven't found Artie yet, but John and Louisa Liston (spelled correctly this time) have his mother Elizabeth Liston (age 76) and father (John G. Liston, 74) are living with them.  Elizabeth says she was born Nov 1823 in WV.  That she and John G. were married in 1855, that she has had 11 children, 8 of whom were living at the time of the 1900 census.  Elizabeth states that her mother was born in WV and her father was born in WV.  John G. states that he was born May 1828 and that both his parents were born in WV.

1910 U.S. census:

Birthplace:  WV

Relation to head of household:  Nephew

Kay, don't recognize any of those names. My grandfather's name was Robert H. Liston. He married Anna Pratt. His dad's name was Artie Marshall Liston, who was married 2 times. The first was to a Daisy, and had 2 kids. They were Freda and Eugene Liston. The second wife, was Mary, and they had two kids. Vernon and my grandfather, Robert. His grandparents names were, as listed in the Preston County records, McMartin Liston and Anna Zella Liston. The funeral card I have on her is Anzella Ringer Liston. That's all the further I have made it. My grandfather was born in 1931 and passed away in 2008.

Shawna, your grandfather...do you know his spouse's maiden name?

Shawna, I agree with Kay...if you're willing to give us names and some specifics (e.g. birth year), we may be able to help. We would like to try, anyway!

Shawna,  Don't know if any of the names in the are your family but it is a for instance on the spelling. Just found an Oliver Liston in the 1920 and 1930 census - first in Preston and then in Monongalia county.  Found them in 1910 and the name is spelled Giston.   Found him in 1900 still living at home name spelled Liston.   I also found thier marriage record and his name was spelled Listen.  The listing below is 1920 in Preston.

Oliver Liston 37
Blanche Liston 37
Florine Liston 14
Della M Liston 11
William Troy 12
Della Frankhouser (her mother)

59

Shawna,  You couldn't get any census hits on familysearch?  Would you be willing to post your grandfather's name and let a few of us search the sites we belong to?  You are trying to search on all the possible spellings of the name?  The people who took the census and registered births, marriages, and deaths didn't always ask for a spelling and just wrote things down as they understood them so spelling is always problematic.
