Fickweiler

My Great Grandfather, Augustos Fickweiler, migrated  to New York Harbor on the Ship Shakespeare in 1861.  After two generations of searching in our family we finally found him.  He used the name of Wiler in the Indian Territory where he ended up from NY.  He was found as an adult on the Orphan Train  that had previously stopped in Texas. I guess he liked what he saw and stayed near the old town of Bennington in the Choctaw Nation.  He was a carpenter and built a mansion for Chief Wilson N. Jones.  I have documented his life in America and have now found his family in Germany near Berlin. Since it took 50 years for our family to finally find his accurate surname, I would like to talk to anyone with the name Fickweiler who lives in the U.S. It's a very uncommon name even in Germany and I'm curious if he was Jewish as well as German. wmscan@att.net
