I descended from Thomas Elsey born in Leigh, Surrey, England. Elsey grandfathers are Edward, Thompson, Solomon. Sarah Cordelia Elsey Carr was my G. Grandmother. My ancesters lived in Virginia and W. Virginia.

I descended from Thomas Elsey (born in Leigh, Surrey, England) & Ann Finch, who came to America in 1753. My descending line of Elsey grandfathers are as follows: Edward, Thompson, Solomon, William. Our line lived most of their lives in Virginia/West Virginia.

Hi! I'm seeking the origins of Elza/Elsey Waggoner (my GGGGF), born about 1800 in PA, MD or VA. He first shows up in the 1830 census in Allegany county, MD. Then is in Fayette County, PA in 1840, died before 1850. Family lore says that his parents were German, or that his father was a Hessian soldier. His wife was Mary (probable maiden: Elbin.) His children were: Susanna, Oliver Clifford (my GGGF), George Washington, Sarah and Mary. Oliver named his oldest son Elza, and there are many Elza Waggoners after that (I have a spreadsheet on them, if anybody is interested). His is the earliest record I have found of Elza as a man's first name. I've also gathered records on a number of people with the Elza surname. I'd appreciate any input, and will share everything I've found.
