The South Carolina Department of Archives and History holds the original records and has provided access to them and given their kind permission to place them on the Internet

For the past several weeks, I have been unable to see the documents with footnote's viewer and have been working with their support team in trying to resolve this issue. Last night I used my Firefox browser instead of Internet Explorer 8 browser and discovered I had no problem accessing the documents, annotating one and downloading several.

I don't use Firefox exclusively because I can't see the higher resolution census records at Ancestry.com with it. So....I need 2 browsers.
Today I was using Footnote to search for an actor on my FIL's side, and I found some classified ads, in which he was searching for cast members for a show he was a 'Stage Director' for. So, now I know he was in Atlanta in June 1903, and most probably with the show during its run from June 23-27.

I was able to find more on the show by searching the title of the show. I didn't find anything else on the actor, but there were more articles on the show, which was good background for theater shows…

It may take some experimentation with what searches to do, sometimes less is more in this case. Instead of doing a search for everything you 'know' try doing a search on smaller pieces of your puzzle. Try doing a search by year, or exact date, or last name. In my previous discussion, I posted about using the Pennsylvania Archives. I found that I could also find records on my great great great grandfather who was on the Confederate side. I was lucky that Texas has a great Confederate Pension search, and could find his pension applications, but on Footnote I was able to find other records for him which allowed me to show my grandmother where her great grandfather served in the Civil War.
Also, I find I use the Philadelphia and Washington City Directories, they are especially helpful for 1890, and the years in between census records, sometimes I can determine when a wife became a widow from the directories, or just a moment in time when she was the head of household when her husband may have been in the military when they published the directory. I started using Footnote when it was in its testing stages, and I used the Pennsylvania Archives to find proof that my 4th Great Grandfather Joshua Fletcher was in the War of 1812. The Pennsylvania Archives are still a free resource on Footnote. The Pennsylvania Archives also offer early marriage information for some early churches as well.
