Comment by Denise on July 30, 2012 at 7:57am Hi I am new to this group and fairly new to GenWise. I am looking for birth records for my grandfather and his sisters.
Hans Christian Hansen 6/6/1919 Kenosha
Solveig Hansen 9/10/1913 Kenosha
Violet Hansen abt 1923 Kenosha
Parents: Robert(Rasmus B) Hansen and Sophie K Johansen
I have found them on census records, but cannot find their birth records.
Can someone lead me in right direction? Thanks
Denise
Hey I'm trying again... I found there was a memorial poem written about my wife's great grandmother in Webster County. Her name was Maggie Troy Caufield and she died in 1893 in Deer Park, IA. The poem was written by Edward James Kennedy Jr who came to Webster Co. in 1860 then went off to the Civil War and returned 3 years later. For him to write "...a mother was taken from our home..." to me implies he was close to her...a relative perhaps. Any connections please?
Pete

Comment by Don Bott on February 24, 2012 at 1:45pm Hello! I have a great deal of family that came to Wisconsin in the 19th century, many of whom ending up in La Crosse. I have done a great deal of research, particularly through Ancestry.com, so I have a lot of key dates, info from the census, and even a few obituaries.
My mother and I are traveling to La Crosse this summer. (It will be my first trip ever to Wisconsin.) We will have a little bit of time to go to places, say the library. My question is what people think I may be able to get, benefitted by being there first-hand, that I don't already have. If someone has special knowledge of La Crosse and its resources, I would especially appreciate that.
Thank you!
I am searching for information on my ancestor Thomas Austin, born abt 1791,England. He married Mary Ann Hennessey in 1845 , Cuyohoga county, Ohio.
Have located Mary Ann and children in Mineral Point, WI in 1900 census. She died in 1902 in Mineral Point and is buried in Graceland cemetery there.
I can not find any death or census information about her husband Thomas Austin in the WI census or Iowa co death records. Wondering where he was between 1860 in Ohio and her death.
Comment by Karen Diamond on April 1, 2011 at 10:26am I could really use some direction. I am new to GenWise, and somewhat new to researching my ancestors.
I am told through family stories that my g-g-g-grandma must have been indian. When I was a little girl, my gr-uncle came to live use and idenitifed some photos for us. I have a photo of her and of her parents. Her parents do not look indian, they are white. Maybe it was the way they took photos back then, I dont know. But she had really long sold black hair and darker skin than her parents. Again, it could've been the photo.
I do know she was born in 1877 in Monroe Co., WI. If she was indian, and was "adopted" or care for by a white couple, would their be a record of this somewhere? If so where do I begin to search?
I do know that her obituary doesn't mention about being indian. The census doesn't notate indian status either. Any help would be appreciated.
