Good Resources

I'll update it with more as I remember them..

Wisconsin Vital Records - great online search, can see basic info, only $15 to order a copy - http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords/
Wisconsin GenWeb - there is also the Gen Web site. Good for county-related information. Some counties are better than others. - http://www.wigenweb.org/

Hello All--I was born in Wausau; lived in La Crosse, Madison, Portage, Brodhead, back to Madison, later Milwaukee--then made the move to California. My primary research in Wisconsin centers in Jefferson County where my g-g-grandfather William Noyes was a pioneer, My husband's family was from Madison/Sun Prairie area and Waupaca County--Kendall family. Have lots of Kendall info. Happy researching to each of you!

Have researched Purdy, Coon, Kendall, Dickinson, Vandervoort/Vandervort, Griffin, Hewitt, Brown, Travis and Crouch among others, primarily in west-central Wisconsin. The time frame for my Wisconsin research is roughly 1848 to the present. I'm always interested in comparing research.

Pam, were Julius Krause and Ulbricka Schmalensee married to each other? I tried to find them in the 1900 Milwaukee census given the information you gave, but was unable to.

I found a Julius Krause married to a Hermina Ulricka Koeller in 1861 in Washington County.

Maybe if you give a few more details, such as what year Julius was born in and where he was born, somebody will have some luck finding him for you. Was Julius your grandfather?

I am seeking a death date of my Great Great Grandfather James Frantz.
He was born about 1825 in Mecklinburg, Germany, died between 1872-1879, Dane county, Wisconsin

I am searching for information on my great-grandfather Henry Grosskopf. He was born in Germany and married Mary Langguth who was born in Caledonia, Wisconsin. My grandmother was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin but I have not been able to find any birth record for her or any information on the Grosskopfs or Langguths in the Wisconsin area of Milwaukee and Racine Counties. They moved to Chicago about 1896. So I'm looking for information before that date.

I am looking for any information on the WETZEL family. My stepdad, who late adopted us was from South Milwaukee and his name was Earl Wetzel and I know he was the youngest of 13 siblings. That is about all I know. His sister's name was Goldie Barbarian I believe that is the correct spelling.

My great-greatgrandmother, Marcella Lowth, lived in Dodge Co. WI before the Civil War. Anybody with info about the Lowth family, Irish immigrants, I'd love to hear from you.

Pam, just because it's listed as Kram doesn't mean anything. Did you actually look at the document? I was looking for a Clara and I found one census report that had what I was looking for. The right parents of the right age, siblings with the right names and ages, and then this Elise person. So I looked at the document. Sure, it could have said Elise (or something close to that - I think Ancestry had Elise) but if you looked, it could have easily said Clara, too. I also found her name listed as Claire. So I would definitely check out the actual report for yourself, just to make sure.
I also found my great grandmother under a different name. Her name was Caroline and I found her as Carolyn. Not much different, but very much the wrong name. (Carolines and Carolyns hate being confused, just like Annes and Annas, Travis' and Trevors, Dans and Daves.) I know her name was Caroline because of how my grandmother - her daughter - talked about her and bc my grandmother's middle name and my first name are Caroline, after her.

So it's not too uncommon for the names to be different like that. The handwriting is hard to read and the people transcribing it can only do so much.
