Newly uncovered information confirms it-Jonathan Pinkney Wilkinson‏ is NOT a son

For many years we have sought to prove or disprove the inclusion of Jonathan Pinkney Wilkinson ( b: April 04, 1833 Abbeville, Barbour Co., AL d: March 15, 1879 (*1900?) Polk Co., TX (Civil War-Co. H, Waul's Texas Legion, Infantry, Enlisted June 13, 1862 Polk Co.) as a sibling of the Wilkinson boys: Jesse, David, Marcus and James. We knew the parents were James Wilkinson and Mary Ann Purvis of GA but we did not know much beyond that.

Recently, my cousin, Jack Langston of Village Mills, Hardin Co., TX (who still lives on the property owned by his grandparents and my great-grandparents: Jefferson D. & Nancy Jane Cross Wilkinson), came into possession of several boxes of records and photos. He found several hand written pages, which clearly show the children, their birth and death dates and in some cases, their marriages along with the wives birth and/or death dates.

Based on these papers, it is clear now that Jonathan Pinkney is not a direct member of this Wilkinson-Purvis line. Since we do not know much about James Wilkinson, the father, it is possible that Jonathan was his nephew. Or that he just shared the Wilkinson surname with no connection at all. Or the connection may be through his wife, *Amanda Purvis.

From the papers, we now know that James had a middle name beginning with "O". This may have been for Oscar since Oscar is a common name in the family lines. We now have the exact birth and death dates for James O. and Mary Ann Purvis Wilkinson. We have also discovered another son who only lived about 4yrs and explains why we were not aware of him but why his name kept showing up in the generations: George B.

We learned that Marcus was married before he married Mary Young, to Frances Dun. The marriage records in Polk County do show these marriages listed. We also now know that the "M" for Jesse's middle name is "Mercer". This is a new discovery as well. I wonder now, if the "M" for David's middle name was for "Monroe", another generational name.

The people who recorded this information were not perfect, recording Permelia Ann Peebles name a "Bermelia".

The point that stands out the most is the lack of any reference to Jonathan Pinkney at all. He is not listed nor his wife nor any of his children. Based on the complete absence of reference, I believe it is safe to state that Jonathan is NOT a son of this Wilkinson line.

*Married Nancy Amanda Purvis b: 1834 GA; d: 1905, Mexia, Limestone Co, TX; m: November 14, 1849 Barbour Co., AL ; (Listed as "Maudy" on son, John William's death certificate and "Mandie" on son, James David 's death certificate.)
