Comment by Brenda Carroll on April 5, 2013 at 8:21am I forgot to add that James' son,Thomas Wesley Wilkerson (my line) started the "Wilkerson" name. So it went from Wilkins in the 1840 census to"Wilkinson" in the 1850 census and then "Wilkerson" by the 1880 one. It pays to look for all variations of a given name =)
Comment by Brenda Carroll on April 4, 2013 at 5:35am Hi. Researching James Wilkinson born 1805 in NC, first spotted in 1840 Campbell County Ga census as James Wilkins. Living near a Sidney Wilkinson whose father is Robert. He was in Benton Cty,Ala by 1850. He says his father was born in NC and his mother SC on the census. He married Elizabeth Harris, daughter of Sterling/Starling Harris and Elizabeth. This has been my brickwall for so long. anyone know of this branch? thanks!
