was just at the family cemetery, took my camera, but alas also my sister, who's not into grave researching. Bwaaaaaaaah. Oh well.

I just finished a vacation centered on researching ancestors via cemeteries. My 1100 photos consists of two complete cemeteries and two partial cemeteries!
I would love to compile a pictoral book of cemeteries.

I had to join this group, last trip I went on was planned around cemeteries, and my cousin is currently on a road trip and is thrilled to know there are NINE cemeteries she's never been to before, and therefore the trip revolves around them, I'm SO gonna tell her about this group when she gets home!

Even if not a planned destination, stopping at a cemetery is a great way to stretch your legs. Some allow dogs. I am particularly interested in unusual tombstones and faces on monuments. You might even learn some history while you are at it.

We're going out of town this weekend. Two different cemeteries are in the game plan. One for me with a distant genealogical connection, one for my guy with a connection to a slightly famous person. We'll both enjoy both of them, of course.

We were on a trip through Lafayette, IN and passed a Genealogy library. My friends had to just about bind and gag me in the car to keep me inside.

What a great idea Shirley.

Our last trip was to the Grand Canyon and the kids said, "Hey, why haven't we stopped at any cemeteries yet?" I had to laugh. My husband was so proud of me, no research the entire time (except when I was on the Internet supposedly planning the next leg of the trip).

It seems like when I was a kid, family trips to cemeteries were the thing to do. I just wish I'd paid more attention to who was buried where and who belonged in which branch of the family. Now my husband and I "hit" at least 1 cemetery when we go on vacation. I always check "Find A Grave" to see if there are any requests for the areas we visit. We'll be staying home this summer so I guess I will be doing local cemeteries.

Ok, I know I am not the only one who plans trips around cemetery locations. I love it when the whole family is flitting about in the Cemetery looking for family headstones. As a child I was terribly frightened of Cemeteries but my children see them in a different way. To them it's like being on a treasure hunt. Next trip.....North Carolina!!! How about you?
