Laird Family of Pennsylvania
William Laird, who was born in Ireland, Oct 27, 1727, and was brought to
America at the age of six years, and died April 11, 1820. In early manhood he had resided near Carlisle, Pa. he served as a member of the committee of correspondence in 1774, as delegate from the Fourth Battalion to the Lancaster county Association of Battalions in 1776, was captain of the Seventh Company of the Sixth Ballaion in 1777, captain of the Eighth Company of the Ninth Battalion in 1780, and thus rendered efficent service to the cause of independence. His death occurred in what is now Madison Township, Columbia county and his remains were interred in the Derry churchyard. He was married to Martha Wilson and they became the parents of eight children, including James Laird, , who was born May 11, 1761.
About 1776 William Laird disappears from tax lists of Cumberland Co, PA, and shows up in what is now Dauphin Co, PA in the 1790 census and in ref to where he lives when he purchases property in Northumberland Co, PA in the 1790s. Also his son James marries Mary McFarland in Dauphin Co in 1788.
From Egle's Notes and Queries, Vol l, Fourth Series, pg 138: Laird.-William Laird, b. about 1730, came to Pennsylvania with his parents in 1736, they settling in the Cumberland Valley. He married Martha Wilson, b. Nov 16, 1730. Their children were:
i. Margaret; b Nov 16, 1765
ii. Eliazabeth; b Feb 6, 1759; m. ----------McClure of Carlisle.
iii. James; b. May 11, 1761.
iiii. Rachel; b. Feb 8, 1765; m. Moses Laird, a distant relative, a distant relative, and were the ancestors of Rev. Matthias Laird, the missionary

MATTHEW LAIRD:
Was an elder of the Big Spring Presbyterian Church of Cumberland Co., PA. He came to Union Co., PA in 1785-1787 and was a elder of the Buffalo Cross-Roads Presbyterian Church.
JOHN LAIRD was born February 8, 1761 in PA, and died 1820 in PA. He married RACHEL LAIRD April 4, 1791 in Dauphin Co., PA, daughter of WILLIAM LAIRD and MARTHA WILSON. She was born February 8, 1765 in PA, and died July 13, 1825 in Canton, OH.

ALBERT D. CLARK, real estate, insurance and Notary Public, Kent, was born in Kent, April 21, 1842, son of John F. and Eliza (Dunning) Clark, His paternal grandparents were George W. and Martha (Laird) Clark, native of Pennsylvania,
America at the age of six years, and died April 11, 1820.
