I just loaded 2 discussions in the "Old News" group concerning Commerce, Hunt Co., TX for Aug 1906 and some from 1901. There are some obits and marriage licenses plus a few other newsworthy items...

I will be posting this in my Texas Ghost Towns group so you may get it twice.

This past Tuesday I joined the Hardin County Genealogy Society, home based in Kountze, Hardin County. They have just released a new book that I feel is a great resource. Not your typical county historical book, it has 600 photos of people and places, businesses, etc. It has a total of 304 pages and I have put it on my homepage if anyone wants to view more details. There is an order form you can print if you want to get a copy. I do not make any money off the sale of the book, I just believe it is a great addition to any library of those who have ancestors in Hardin County or those who enjoy the history of the sawmill towns etc. Many of these communities are gone so this is another resource to learn about them.

Hi everyone, I have started a new group:

These were the fife (like a flute) and drummers who marched with the Army. So far, Dennis Heckathorne is the only other member. Dennis has the modern day "Texas Army Fife & Drum Corps" and they are re-enactors of our Texas group. They play at the Battle of San Jacinto every anniversary and he also makes (builds??) black powder guns.

If you have an interest in this specific part of Texas history or would like to help him in his researching this group of men, please join the group.

Thanks

Sherry, my cousin born 1917 in Milvid was Cecil Eugene Frazier. The family didn't live there long, his mother died 1918 in Harris Co.

Gay, I just uploaded 6 more photos of the town in 1910. What was your cousin's name? I am working on a list of people either born, died, buried or who lived in Milvid.
