Spade is my maiden name, and so far it has been traced back to a John Spade who came over from Germany (Nuremburg) to fight as a Hessian soldier during the Revolution. He deflected and fought for the US. He married a Swiss maiden in Virginia named Mary Schaefer. They had at least 5 children. The family lived for several generations (and some still do) in the Monroe, Greenbrier and Fayette county areas of West Virginia.
