My husband's family is from South Carolina.  I have done a little bit of research on it but I need to do more.  Surnames include Martin, Brant, Ulmer, Fisk, Breland, and Cope.  The counties are mainly Colleton, Beaufort, and Barnwell.

Family lore has that Joseph Attaway fought at Cowpens and was shot in the foot but I've not found him listed on any history of that battle. He would have been in his teens. Also, it seems that there were so many volunteers that no comprehensive list exists. Any thoughts on finding this info.

My ATTAWAY family was in SC in early to mid 1800s. I am specifically looking for marriage of William and Nicey DRAPER before 1830. My brick wall is proof that William's parents were Joseph and Edith NATIONS ATTAWAY. William is in 1830 Spartanberg census, moved to TN abt 1834, died before 1840. Some of the remaining family moved to GA. I have a DNA site on Ancestry for Attaway males if you are one.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.  I WAS LOOKING FOR DOCUMENTS AND NOT A NOTATION.  FYI:  J.W. THOMAS, ADMINISTRATOR, OF THIS WILL LATER MARRIED HIS WIDOW, MY GGGRANDMOTHER.

Hi Sharon,

His will was only mentioned on the public member tree.  As far as I know the will isn't on Ancestry.com.  I didn't find it on any of my sites.  The public member tree can be found here:

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/25928144/person/1743415781?ssrc=

It is the Rowell/Schell family tree belonging to ERowell71.

The note includes the following information:

Date -16 February 1866

Location - Darlington District, SC

Probate Court--J.W. Thomas Administrator

You might contact the county courthouse in Darlington County and see if they have it and get get you a copy.  If they don't have them, then maybe the state archives?

Kind regards,

Dee
