Hello,

I am wondering if anyone can tell me the place of birth of two people one each on the attached files. Christina Johansdotter and Lars Larsson they were both born in the same place if you notice it looks to me like Hvarf? but I am not very good at looking. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rebekah

I found this on another discussion forum. (Note to posters in the future. We can be a lot more helpful if you give us more information like the parish and county.)  Is this your place????

"Hello!
Today is Hvarf spelled Varf or Varv and is corporated in Tidaholms parish, Skaraborg county. You can find Tidaholm on Wikipedia."

Your place name is Hvarf.  I found two parishes   called Varv today.   One is in Skaraborgs län the other in Östergötland. Since duplicated place names are common, it is important to narrow it down. In my atlas Varv sits on a country road 10 km west of Tidaholm toward Falköping.  If you go to wiki.FamilySearch.org and type in Varv Parish, you will see a list of farms in the Parish.

Hvarf is an old spelling. Here is how to deal with it...  With Hv- the "H" is silent (silent letters are rare in Swedish) so just ignore it. Also in old Swedish, "f" is often written as "v" today (since 1906). This get you to "Varv."

Some nearby parishes on my map are Högstena, Kungslena, Hömb, Acklinga,  Tidaholm, Dimbo, Tiarp, Mularp.  The area around Falköping is a fertile, agricultural plain. The only picture I found was on the web site  Falköping Kommun- Bygga, bo och miljö.

Rosenberg describes your parish (c. 1885) as follows...

Hvarf in Skaraborg County. Parish in
Vartofta härad on and below Hvarfsbergets
eastern slope, across the Tidaholm-Svensbro railroad,
whose station
Ekedalen, which lies just out of parish, is
nearest post office. 0.09 square (Swedish)mile or
2,083 tunnland, 12 mantal, population of 132 people, 244,300
SEK. assessed property value. Cultivated countryside,
taken up almost solely by the village Hvarf,
1 mtl is Crown property.
Fårdala estate owns some farmland in this parish.
Hvarf forms together with annexes Kungslena
and Hömb, a regular pastorate of 2 class
in the Diocese of Skara.
