I am looking for anyone else researching the Sheppard family of East Nottingham, Chester County, PA and surrounding area, including Cecil Co., MD after the Mason-Dixon line moved part of the land in southern Chester Co into Maryland. My line moved into the city of Chester in Pennsylvania after about 1850.

Sorry. I think I just sent an email to everyone in the group instead of commenting in this forum. My apologies. I didn't mean to do that.

I do have a William Shepherd; however, all of my Shepherd kin (so far) are in Johnson County, Tennessee and the western counties of North Carolina.

Hope, I see you are interested in the Shepherd name. If you happen to come across a William M. Shepherd, let me know.

If you ever come across William M., I'd be interested in knowing more. I'll let you know if I ever find anything else.

Tom, I am fairly confident that there is a connection. I am looking for the actual note/document I am thinking of . . .What I CAN say is that the were four or five Shepherd brothers in my line who moved en masse to Ohio and settled there for a time. There are Williams in my direct line, but not a William M. However, I am sure you are familiar with the penchant for family names to be convoluted and repetitive.

Corey, do you happen to have a William M. Shepherd in your data base? I haven't been able to go into the past beyond him. He was born in Ohio, so there could be a connection.

I am a descendant of Daniel Shepherd, born in 1757 in Orange County, New York. He is recorded as buried in the Slate Hill Cemetery in Orange County, NY. His children moved to Ohio and his grandson Moses Trader Shepherd was an early pioneer in Spanish Fork, Utah. This Moses Shepherd is my fourth Great-grandfather.

For some reason, Fred SHEPARD, a brother of my grandfather, changed the spelling of his last name from SHEPHERD. As far as I know, he was the only one to do so.

I hope someone will be able to help me out. I've hit a brick wall that I've tried to break through for several years. I have no information beyond William M. SHEPHERD, born about 1817 in Ohio. He married Mary Ann (surname unknown), who was born in Kentucky about 1824. Their children were Francis Marion (my great-grandfather), Jasper N., Sarah M., Mary E., Amanda E., and Mary L.

There is no mention of William M. after about 1857.

I'm hoping someone might know more about William's history.
