My Great Grandfather Aaron Bowman born 1820 Shennandoah Valley region, moved with parents as a child to Gallia County Ohio then on to Lawrence County Ohio. There are lots of Bowman families from Virginia in Gallia County. Do not know Aaron's p, so I am researching any and all Bowman's who came from the Valley to Gallia or Lawrence Co. 's Ohio.

My Dobkins ancestors (also spelled Dobikin) were in Shenandoah and Augusta Counties in the very early 1700s. My immediate ancestor, John A. Dobikin had an early Fairfax grant, which passed to his son, John A. Dobikin, Jr. when John Dobikin, Sr. died about 1749. John A. Dobikin, Sr.'s wife's name was Mary; and Junior's wife's name was Elizabeth. I have always hit a brick wall trying to find the maiden name of both of their wives. This Dobkins family ties into the Holman, Johnson, Campbell, Moore families. The Dobikin/Dobkins father and son were both property appraisers and surveyors for people living around Smith Creek and Holman's Creek.

I am researching the Elsey family starting with Thomas & Ann (Finch) Elsey who came from England in 1753. My next grandfather was Edward Elsey (b. 1755) who married Sarah "Sally" Thompson. She was the daughter of David Thompson & Anna Dabney. I believe Edward & Sarah were married in the Shenandoah Valley sometime about 1783. I am searching for any information about them.

My ancestor is Jurig/George Lockmiller. The earliest record of him in this area is when he purchased land in current Shenandoah County/then Orange County on 23 June 1743. He was naturalized in Frederick County on 5 May 1747. On 18 May 1772 he purchased he purchased 142 acres on Cedar Creek in present day Shenandoah County, which likely adjoined his purchase of 115 acres on Cedar Creek and Mulberry Run. His will was probated on 25 Dec 1788.
My question is, are there any cemeteries with graves that date back that far? I'm curious to know if there's any chance of finding where he might be buried.

I have several lines from the area. Two are WENDEL/WINDLE and WOLFE in Frederick (later Shenandoah) County. An unrelated line is BAY in the same counties. I am also interested in SHORT in the area, including all the counties. I am the administrator for the SHORT DNA project. We are particularly trying to find a SHORT descended from Samuel SHORT who died about 1808 in Rockingham County (in that part later Page County) who would DNA test.

My Cherryholmes line goes back to William Cherryholme born about 1703; married Mary --- who died 12 March 1814 Tuscarawas Co., Ohio. Their daughter Mary born about April 1773 married Jacob Marks (my connection).
