Broken Media Links. I am reorganizing my file folders and thus the links in RM are broken. I then run the fix broken links and all is well and good again. I am wondering though, can we run the fix broken links so that it looks only in designated folders rather than my entire computer? It would be much faster. Thank you.

In your request, be sure to mention the RM3 text based report as that is almost ideal. To meet the web page requirements, there would also need to be an option to exclude all facts except, Birth, Marriage, Death and Burial. (This was not in the RM3 text-based FGS, nor is there an easy way to do it in RM4.)

Thank you Bill.
I did submit one FGS to 3 state FGS-projects using Legacy to produce it. I never used RM3, and it looks like the RM3 procedure you described is as difficult as using Legacy.

I am going to request this type of report be developed for RM4.

As I said:
"The RM4 Custom Report writer does not have the features to create an FGS report since it can't access the spouses or their facts, or the children or the children's sex, facts or spouses."

This precludes creating an FGS-like txt report with the Custom Report writer.

Bill:
Thank you. It explains much. However, is it possible to do what I wish doing a Custom Report from scratch?

I visited the website and they have specific requirements for input - either use the online form, or copy the form to an e-mail and enter the data there or use the txt version of the Legacy created FGS.

I tried to replicate the Legacy txt file from RM4, but there is no way to create it directly from RM. RM4 only has an RTF ooutput, no txt output, so the FGS uses some RTF features, like putting the title in the header, which does not print out. Also, the RTF file does not include field prompts, i.e. Born, Died:, Buried:, Father:, Mother:, etc. Further, the endnote reference are not inclosed in ( ), they appear as a number tacked onto the end of the place name. Also, RM doesn't have the ability to limit facts in the FGS to BMD and Burial facts, so one would have to suppress them (it can be done in several ways, but not easily in a single button click as in ohter programs such as Legacy or TMG or GenBox.)

FYI, the Legacy FGS text report does not produce what they define on their site as a "Properly formatted FGS." However, the Legacy text report is formatted in a way that can be readily assimilated as an input by the "volunteers".

The RM4 Custom Report writer does not have the features to create an FGS report since it can't access the spouses or their facts, or the children or the children's sex, facts or spouses.

If you have RM3, it produced a txt version that looks like it should meet the requirements, except that the title doesn't include the names of the couple, and you would have to suppress all facts other than BMD and Burial. (There are several ways to do this: 1) edit the fact types to not include them in the FGS; 2) edit the FGS txt file to remove the extra facts (not nice for more than one or two FGS reports); 3) edit the fact types to not include them in a GEDCOM file, which could then be read back into RM3 to create the FGS (but this way is more work than editing the facts to not include them in the FGS directly.)

Val,
Custom reports in RM4 are internal to the database and are not re-usable between databases. (In RM3 they were external and could be reused between databases, but since the were based on an internal record ID to access people, they were not really usable between databases.)

I have found a web page which collects Family Group Sheets by state and county.
They have format requirements which are more plain than the FGS report in RM4. Some of their helps suggest I write a GEDCOM, then import into Legacy Family Tree software, and use that software report writer to write the properly formated FGS.

Format guide:

Method using Legacy:

Is there a FGS report that I could edit and change in Custom Report Writer?

Is there a list of custom reports that I could download, practice with, and see how to use CUSTOM REPORTS?

@Bill - Thanks for responding. I replied over in the RootsMagic forum.
