I have viewed the webinar and think I understand how RM2go works. I have it installed. on a USB, and it does work.

I use it on a Sandisk 16gb cruzer. That drive contained a U3 (operating system) and contained several application programs. I happened to erase those U3 system files, In doing research, I found that Sandisk no longer supports U3. That USB drive is also slow.

I am interested in taking with me to do genalogy work, beside RM2go, a word processor and spreadsheet program.

Has anyone else had experience with this? I am looking for a faster USB drive, and probably 8gb in size.

I have found http://portableapps.com/, which seems to offer a current application, similar to U3. It seems to provide the protective "bubble" described in the RM2go webinar. I am probably going to reformat my 16 gb Cruzer, and install on it 1) portableapps, then 2) open office portable, and then 3) RM2go.

I would be interested in learning if any on this forum have had some experience with these issues.

Thank you

All - I got some great help here in the past, so although quiet, will try again. Here's my problem:

I have the head of household's residence listed as a fact which is shared with other family members. When I printed a narrative report, the sentences for the family members ("witnesses" I expect, because I did not know I could change the name of this role) all come out as : "She witnessed the immigration of HH at Address." (wife) Or "He delivered HH at Address" (son - for one residence) or "He witnessed the occupation of HH at Address." (same son, 3 other residences). Another son "delivered" 3 times and actually "lived at" shared residence once! Another witnessed the occupation 3 times and delivered once! What the heck is going on here????

When I run an individual report, these shared residences show up as multiple immigrations or occupations.
In the individual edit screen, all show as shared residence. The sentence for shared residence under Lists - Fact Type List - Edit shows the sentence saying "lived at."

This is RM4.
Thanks for any assistance. For now, I am editing like crazy in a Word document!
JEK
conversion from Family Tree Maker problemstag:www.genealogywise.com,2010-11-16:3463583:Topic:2947782010-11-16T20:26:46.262ZVal Harrishttp://www.genealogywise.com/profile/ValHarris

Looking for Roots Magic TO GO advice. I currently have my photos and docuements on my desktop computer linked to Roots Magic. When I use Roots Magic TO GO, the links get broken. I am considering moving all data, files, docs, etc that are associated with RM to my flash drive and making the flash drive my primary file database. Does this sound reasonable? How are others using RM TO GO?

I'd like to know how other people are handling pictures that have multiple people in them when they put them into RootsMagic. Do you put a copy in the media album for each person in the picture or do you just put the picture in a family media album?

Maybe someone can help me with the problem that I am having. I want to use a narrative report and
import it into a word processing program. Only 3 options to save this report to disk, pdf, txt and rtf (I'm
not counting the html.) The pdf format is the only that lets you keep the structure of the report the
way it is saved, the problem is that you cannot update a pdf file. You can save a pdf file to a txt file
but it does the same as roots magic saving in txt.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I uncovered a serious defect in RootsMagic,
and it is best everyone knows about this ASAP, to limit the damage.

If you or anyone you know switched from PAF to RootsMagic 4, you need to know this.
The RootsMagic 4 direct PAF import is defective. The direct PAF import loses data.
I did a full write-up: RootsMagic PAF import
That article contains details, workaround, possible user actions and suggested RootsMagic action.

I have informed Bruce by personal email.

This is not a reason to stop using RootsMagic 4.
It is a reason to avoid the direct PAF import.

Importing PAF databases is still possible; use a PAF GEDCOM.
I recommend importing PAF data via an UTF-8 encoded PAF GEDCOM.
I expect RootsMagic to issue some statement and a patch soon. Index Refresh?tag:www.genealogywise.com,2009-07-30:3463583:Topic:1134862009-07-30T21:45:42.673ZSharon Lighthousehttp://www.genealogywise.com/profile/SharonLighthouse
I love RM. I upgraded to RM4 and super happy with the product. I do have a question though as I am a year new to RootsMagic. I made a mistake when I was first figuring out Ancestry and RM, I was a paper Genealogist until last year. Somehow I ended up with a huge tree and an entire line is not mine. So, I broke the link and deleted the family line that is not mine but now I have all these people in the search index. The other day I started playing with Family Atlas and used my file to open in…

Is there a way to refresh the Index to only the ancestors actually in there? For the last couple of weeks I have considered starting from scratch and reentering everything (a lot!) into a new tree file. I am not sure if that would work? Maybe everyone on any family file is in a program index?

I hope I explained this well enough to understand..... lol.
