My grandmother has some pictures that cannot be removed from their frames. Any suggestions for preserving/scanning them in?This is an example. The photo has been cut and glued onto the frame. To make it more difficult the surface is slightly convex. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Jo, let me get back to you on that. I'm not sure what is out there for Australia. I imagine Gaylord (which I would normally recommend if you were in the US) would have high shipping all the way to Australia.

Stacy, read the article I've written (the groups website, link is under the section named "Information"). Information on original photographs is on page 5-6 and pg. 9-12 is a "glossary" with links to businesses that sell products that will work for you. Page 13-14 is a list of further reading (some online, some offline).

Basically, for companies when you are dealing with photographs, you want to use Gaylord or Light Impressions, those are your best bet. When I worked in archives, these are the 2 companies the archive I worked in used and when I first wrote this article back in 2004, they also gave me help and suggestions on which products to use and companies. (I am a trained archivist, although I work in libraries now).

Stacy, you may want to get a starter kit from Light Impressions. They run at $46.95 last time I checked, but it will give you an idea of what you need. Page 12 talks about starter kits and my suggestions. Take a look through all that and get back at me if you would like more help :)

I have 4 handwritten recipe books going back to the 1800's some are literally falling apart, I'm in Australia, which is a climate unto itself. What do I DO? Extreme temperature is the norm here. And family still want to look at the pages, how do I get these pages repaired and preserved down here, do you know?
