On my fathers side I am a first generation Canadian. My Potters are from Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland, and before than Livingstone, West Lothian, Scotland. I can trace the line with certainty to 1750 and am trying to prove the ancestors before them. Some of the family over time emigrated to Australia and New Zealand, but I not aware of any connections to the US. Does anyone trace their Potters back to the Edinburgh area?

For those who hit a brick wall on Potter name in England maybe you should look at Dutch Reform Church of London for there were several Potter families there in late 1500's. Not much online with those records but maybe this clue helps. Good Luck!

I have hit a brick wall in searching for the marriage of Francis Potter and his wife Mary Ann. Francis was born about 1777 and became a fellmonger (butcher) in Croydon, Surrey UK. His wife Mary Ann was born about 1789 in Chichester, Sussex UK. They had children baptised in Croydon between 1808 and 1833, so I expect their marriage to have been about 1807.
I have searched Croydon registers, the IGI and the Pallot index without success; neither have I yet managed to find their baptisms.
Does anyone have this marriage in their tree, or can help locate the marriage or baptisms. I have not yet tried the Chichester baptism registers as this seems a long shot without a surname.

Hi

My Potters were from Fressingfield/ Metfield / Hoxne in Suffolk.

I'm stuck because I can't find the birth of my 3xgreat grandmother Lydia Potter who married John Riches in 1804 Fressingfield. It is likely she was the daughter of Henry Potter and Elizabeth Dye who married and died in Hoxne but I can't prove it. Henry is the son of Robert and Susanna Potter. Robert died in Hoxne 1783 aged 69

Does anyone else have Potters from this part of the country?

Lyla
