Genealogy Wise

The Genealogy & Family History Social Network

1) check out the website: Online City, County, and Rural Directories Website (remember, this is a work in progress and it will take quite some time for it to be "done", if ever, because of all the great online resources available out there)

2) check out the blog, Online City, County, and Rural Directories Blog, to keep updated on the website. You can bookmark it, add it to your favorite feed reader, or receive updates via e-mail.

3) send me your suggestions using this forum. Do you know of any great online city, county, rural or other directories? I have listed some main ones on my Resources page on the website, but if your local genealogical or historical society, library, archive, university, museum, etc. has online directories (scanned or transcribed), please send me the link!

Thanks for all your help! I hope the site will be useful to you in your research!

Hi Miriam & Group Members! Got German(ic) Genealogy?

I have access to, or can obtain access to not only numerous directories, but also gazetteers & parish registers from Germany, i.e. provinces, regions & states that were once a part of Germany, Prussia, etc. This includes Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Poland, Russia.

Since 1979, I've successfully found thousands of data, documents & images on thousands of ancestral family members for hundreds of clients since 1979!

Thank you so much, Karl-Michael, for your offer to help the members of this group! I will have to check out my few German lines and get back to you for a look up request.
Miriam,

I am quite appreciative of this effort of yours. I know how busy you are; so thanks for this. I find city directories to by extremely useful, but under-used by many researchers. They either overlook the resource entirely or fail to get as much out of it as they might. Hopefully, this will help folks understand the value of these resources.
Thanks, Craig! Adding links to my site is something I do when I need to wind down...it doesn't (usually) take much thought, just a lot of time. Sometimes I'll sit and watch a movie with my hubby or son and just add links. The amazing thing to me is how many are available out there! It's so exciting to see, and it will keep me busy for a long, long time. I appreciate when users of the site and members of the group send me links, and especially appreciate the patience they have as again, it does take quite a bit of time to add links to one location's page from a single resource.
