I am a descendant of Obadiah Oliphant and Mary Rickey through their daughter, Anna, who married William Hammett. Anna was born in Spartanburg Co., SC in 1776. The family later moved to Warren Co, KY and from there William and Anna moved to Peoria Co, IL being one of the first families to locate in the northern reaches of that county. I am looking for more information on the Oliphant and Hammett lines.

I haven't been following closely, but no doubt you've seen Roddy's references to "The Maryland Oliphants" and his mention of a book by Eva Emery Doty.
Hello I'm a newbie researching family history. I am looking for information on Alice E. Oliphant who married Edward O'Neal in Richmond County, Georgia on 7/22/1916. We believe she is my maternal great-grandmother and would love information about her family. She moved to New York at some point after marriage. One of her sons was Herbert Bolan O'Neal (my grandfather). We think the family may have been bi-racial or even multi-racial.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Discuss the ins and outs of DNA testing (in general) and your experience with testing your Oliphant DNA here. In tracing ancestry during a genealogical timeframe, only male DNA (the y-DNA test) is useful. Sorry ladies, that's just the way the science works!

The Oliphants were mobile in shipping, going abroad for education, etc., going back over 500 years. Thus the Oliphant surname spread throughout Europe. Here's a board to discuss the European Oliphants.
