This group includes all of north Georgia, including metro Atlanta. There are dozens of counties in this area, so if you aren't familiar with Georgia geography, please ask.
I am happy to do look-ups in this area, including cemetaries, and would welcome any other locals to join the group to do the same.

I was contacted by a woman looking for information on Meredith Leroy Cox and Alice Manifold.  Looking for information around their marriage date of 20 Dec 1945 in Marietta, GA.

Hello!!

I just joined this group to share information.

Here is a link to Historic Georgia newspapers.  While I'm not currently researching in Georgia--yet--I thought someone would be interested.   Enjoy!

Finally back online thanks to a new laptop. The old desktop finally gave up after 10 years. I guess I got my money's worth. Welcome to all the newcomers I have missed! If anyone needs help, encouragment, or a place to vent...feel free!

Thanks for the info, John. Unfortunatly, this obit is only from 2005. I've checked online and in the films and no luck.

Barbara, check the following if the obit was between 1860 - 1930 (approx)

a useful resource in the Atlanta area is Garrett's Necrology.

Garretts Necrology is a series of microfilm rolls of hand transcribed items from the Atlanta Constitution newspaper. This was done by Franklin Garrett and covers from 1860 - 1930 (approximately).
You can search this index at home from the following link:

http://garrett.atlantahistorycenter.com/

The Atlanta History Center also has a large number of other documents and books related to Atlanta and it's history and genealogy. It can be contacted at:

http://www.atlantahistorycenter.com/

I don't know what kind of response time there is on any queries, but I can probably find any info needed.

No luck on the obituary I was looking for. This has happened before- SSDI claims the person died locally, but neither the Atlanta paper nor the Marietta one has an obit. Frustrating
