I have lots of family lines back to early Sussex County. My current problem is determining the parentage of Jacob Myers of Wallpack. He died in 1850 and the death record states he was born in Sandyston and his father was Abijah. Have been really unable to find any early records on the father, Abijah and wonder if it is a corrupted version of Sebastian aka "Bost Jon".

My great-grandfather was Egbert Tallman, whose family lived in Cresskill. I'm particularly interested in his grandfather, Cornelison Tallman. I believe the family shipped freight up and down the Hudson, particularly from Huyler's Point to Nyack. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Need help with Newark NJ

I'm trying to plug a hole in the family history.

What is known:

John Clark and his son John H. Clark came from England to Newark and opened a carriage factory in Newark or environs. John H. Clark married Sarah Jane Denman, b. ~1822 in Springfield NJ. She was probably the daughter of Joseph Denman and Abigail Miller. They had a son, George Harrison Clark, b. 1844 in Newark. He married Louisa Meisel. They had a, George Faure Clark and a daughter Jennie Louise Clark, my grandmother b. 1874. George H., Louisa, George F. and Jennie came to California, probably in the 1880's. George H. and Louisa died in the 1930's. I have death certificates on order from the state of California for them.

What is unknown:

Birth and death dates for John, John H. and Sarah Jane.
Birth and death places for John, John H and Sarah Jane. I am assuming that they died in Newark.

There has been a lot written about the Denmans and it is mentioned in the Harris book that Joseph and Abigail had 13 children, but the names are unknown.

What I want from the kind people here.

Given that they died in Newark or very near there between 1844 and 1870, what is the best approach to dealing with either Essex County or the State of NJ to get death records. I think Newark is in Essex county, right?

I'm in California so physically getting to Newark is going to be difficult.

Searching for information on Browers family from Passaic County. Believe Margaret June Almond may have been biological daughter of Ellis Brower. Believe her mother Lydia Ann/ Leeanne Brower and Jacob Almond adopted Margaret after her parents died. Margaret was born 3Nov. 1847.

Researching descendants of Jacob Meeker (c 1737-1778) of Essex County. Descendants in Newark area, also Union County and Morris County.

I have abstracted Warren County marriages 1824-1857 from County Clerk's book and will check for marriages in that source.

My 5th g-grandfather Thomas White's family were among the earliest settlers of Sussex County, NJ, having come to New Jersey from Massachussetts. They built the first Presbyterian Church in Sussex County.
