I see so many family historians today skipping over the early Parish Records. These documents contain some of the most important information about our NC ancestors. Orphan documents, sickness, death, birth, marriage, all of these are within the original parish records. Don't overlook these when discovering and preserving your family history.

The document, attached, shows a crude drawing of the Survey, but is there a way to find out, the actual location of this Survey? Is there a way to visually place it on a map?

So far in my research no one seems to know who his parents are. I have researched his uncle Matthew Rowan (1703-1760), and so far none of his 9 male siblings 'claim" Robert Rowan as a child. I believe I have all of Matthew's siblings, and Robert was supposedly born here in Bladen County, so his parents had to be here, and one would think that some church record would exist, but so far nada.

With all the advances in genealogy the last few years, how are they, or any record of them not around. I have found several church records from that era, but not them in the books. The church records may have been destroyed in a fire or such, such as the "Great Fire" that destroyed Fayetteville in 1831. So far I have not seen and mention of such records being among those destroyed, as minute books exist for these years.

Anyone have any new ideas????

The ink in the upper 1/3 to 1/2 has faded over time.

I have requested and received a copy, from the NCSA, of his Will, but it's too difficult to make out the faded ink.

Checking with North Carolina Groups, here in Genealogy Wise, was suggested to me:

"My suggestion is to see if you can find someone who lives out here that can go and make a transcription of the will for you. Even if you request another copy, it may not be any better and a waste of money. Check with the NC group on here."

Hi All,

I am trying to find information on Alfred TAYLOR from North Carolina. He was born in 1813 and married Mary "Polly" Bailey about 1830 (also born about 1813). Ancestry.com family trees indicate that he was from Edgecombe, but I have no source records for that. He had a large family of ten known children born between 1830 and 1849 all in North Carolina. Since all of these birth's were pre-1913, does anyone know a good place for me to try next?? (Children's names are Susan, Margaret, Louisina, John, William Bennet, David, Berton, David, Rebecca, Nancy)
